I had already come to this conclusion after looking at the numbers the last few days. The number of cases has not been making that big of a jump, especially in places with the most cases.

I've heard that it is not as bad as the regular flu usually is. And there still has only been one confirmed death, and that was a young child with health problems, who did not get treated right away.

I don't know if they were just trying to ease the panic, but that was in a public press release.

Yes they said that so far most people have not even required medical attention. Hopefully the public panic will ease soon.

Imagine if the same amount of government employee time, our money, and media coverage was used to work for a good and positive cause as was used for spreading fear over this? That is the kind of world I want and I wonder how or if we will ever get there.

That is all weell and good if these people are staying home. However if they are going out to public places the nwhole ideaa of closing the schools is kind of mote. How many cases do you have in your state again?I think I'd be more nervous if we had as many cases as you do.Howevr, shutting schools down for one case of swine flu may be panicing a little.I just don't know.

Definitely agree with you there Michelle, optimistic but not complacent sums it up. I think reasonable caution is smart (washing hands frequently, avoiding closely packed indoor crowds, staying away from Mexico), but the panic is a bit off kilter and not really helpful. I also think it's a bit overkill to close schools for the length of time they are doing, after all regular flu seems to be more severe yet we don't close schools for the winter.

Gotta say I am thankful my kids aren't in school right now, what a mess! We ate at a restaurant today and the waitress was very talkative and said to my kids "so are you enjoying your little vacation?", they were clueless!
