Wow! That's really shocking. It's also scary. How do you prevent your child from getting involved in this? I guess just talking to them, and educating them, and being open with them, but is that a guarantee?

I'm amazed how kids are having sex at school. Aren't there hall monitors anymore? How are they sneaking into each others' bathrooms? But then I guess if they weren't doing it at school, they'd be doing it somewhere else, right?

I can't imagine any teenage girl WANTING to get pregnant, either. What is up with that??

Thanks for posting this. It's an eye-opener.

Teenage pregnancy is becoming a fad. It is becoming more and more acceptable in our society (read: Jamie Lynn Spears being PLASTERED on magazine covers) . Also with the number of broken home, kids are looking for love and they think having a baby is the answer.

Its very sad and scary. Its not the kids from "bad homes" doing this anymore. All of our kids are in danger if they aren't educated!!

ITA with your whole post--it's all very heart-breaking that kids feel they need to find love by having sex!

At first, I was one of those parents who was afraid to talk to her daughter about sex/puberty/pregnancy, because I thought it would frighten her; but after answering questions that randomly popped up, I know that Sherina will be better prepared if I just speak to her about reproduction as openly & honestly as

Thanks to Kelly (mom2emsopmax) for my beautiful siggy! Photobucket

I don't find it shocking at all. This isn't a new attitude.

Well I am 31 and where I am from you did not see pregnant middle schoolers or high schoolers as much as you do now. When and if you got pregnant it was a HUG issue and everyone was SHOCKED and the pregnant mom was shunned! Not so much now. The kids these days are very accepting of their pregnant friends (as are most parents). They throw showers and the girls are welcome to stay at school through their third trimester. That is very different to me! No the idea isn't new but acceptance and tolerance is.

Honestly--it really doesn't surprise me--I think the most shocking was the sex at school being 50% or something---that.

When I got preggo with Emily at 16 I was allowed to stay at school till the end, my girlfriens threw me a shower and I wasn't shunned---it wasn't thought of as glamours but people were supportive and probably because I didn't hide--I knew I took a risk and had to pay the consequences and I stepped up tot eh plate to do that.

Trying not to hyperventilate here...I have been talking to both of my kids about these kinds of things since they were old enough to ask the questions.

Our society is highly sexualized so I am not surprised either... again what is surprising to me is the acceptance of such behavior and the lack of education at home and at school.

My really good friend was booted from school when she got pregnant at age 16 and alot of our friends (and adults) utterly dissed her and her family. I was in San Jose, CA in 1994.
