Teachers and gift giving...

Once your kids hit ms/jr. high and had multiple teachers did you give ALL their teachers gifts? Evan has 6 teachers. Even if I get each of them a $10 gift card, that's $60. Last year we gave all his teachers hand-made white chocolate lollipops with colored/flavored decorations but I'm sure teachers get a TON of that kind of stuff and it seems so unoriginal. Evan has been quite a challenge in school this year so I feel like we really should do something...

Ideas? Do we need to give gifts?

We no longer give gifts once the kids hit m/s or h/s. If he really wants to give something go the dollar store and buy some christmas tins. When you do your baking fill them with different delicious treats and send Evan to school with them. DD did this in 6th grade and some of the teachers were eating them at their desks! Even if they aren't going to eat it surely they will be invited somewhere they can bring it.

Let us know what you decide.

I was thinking the same thing. My dd has 2 main teachers. One for Lang. Arts & SS & one for math & science. I was thinking its MS so what should I do? if she had 6-7 different teachers I definitely would not but since its only 2 I will give each a small gift if dd wants to.

The best gift to give a teacher is a hand-written note from you and/or your child.

Other gifts that work well are home-baked goodies, GermX or something like it, school supplies (sticky notes, paper clips).

Kurt has 3 main teachers. I should get them something (god knows they deserve it after having to put up with him) but I probably won't. I'm so scatterbrained at the moment and perma-broke.

This is our first year with multiple teachers as well, so instead of doing traditional "gifts", I'm having Droid write them each a handmade Christmas card illustrating why he's happy to have that individual teacher, and including a candle.

Hi Amie - we've never done gifts in middle school, this is Kayleigh's 4th and final year.

When Gab was in her schools lower M/S(5th and 6th grade)she had 3 main teachers, and she wanted to get gifts so I did get them something small. This year she is in upperM/S,and she has 6 main teachers she really does not want to get gifts nor I am I inclinded to buy gifts,The 5th and 6th grade teachers babied the kids a little more, plus I tended to talk to the teachers more when Gab wa sin 5th and 6th.This year I pretty much leave most stuff up to her,and i has been working,so I never talk to her teachers.Plus the teacher are not as warm and fuzzy,so I don't feel guilty not buying anything. Her 5th and 6th grade teachers went above and beyond. This year Gab's teachers are ok,plus she does need to learn to be more independant,so no gifts for us.
