Well, Thanksgiving is not that big of a deal for us up here. Usually my ex comes over but I cook a turkey and do the whole 9 yards. For us its just a day off work and we enjoy not having to get up early and can laze around in pjs all day. LOL
Sorry no great advice. Maybe you could search around and see if there is some tradition in your town that happens every year on that day and start that as your tradition. No idea what it could be but a tree lighting ceremony or a museum that is open.
Good luck in finding a special way to celebrate as a family.
Have you thought about perhaps working at a 'soup kitchen' as a family for a few hours? We did that a few times before Quinn came along. We did it when my mother would go to NY & my in-laws would go to the eastern part of the state. There are always several families working there together as a project. Or what about wrapping gifts together (although if I to suggest that to my son, he would think it was work). Board games? Nature walk? What about trying out a new outdoor hobby called geo caching??? Do you have a GPS? Check out this site for more info: http://www.geocaching.com/ I'm going to try to find a few caches in Georgia for Quinn, our cousins & I to go find while we are down there. It's one of our favorite things to do. We haven't been since my husband left. I just found the GPS & thought that we would give it a try without him.
Actually we've been geo caching for a few years! We do love it. The weather here has not been fabulous of late, so I was trying to avoid out door stuff. I do love the idea of going to the movies. All our kids want to go see santa claus 3 and it sounds like a great day to do that. We have done the soup kitchen thing in the past....but since we are new to the area, we were just planning on a fairly quiet day... I just wondered what other people did!
Good question! We're in the same situation this year. Because we moved across the states and dh doesn't want to go to his family's house this year, it's the first year in our marriage that it's just going to be "us"! We're still having a big dinner, and doing all the same traditions we would do with other family. We each will have three corn kernels and say something we're thankful for with each one, we have a "converstation" jar that will sit on the table and we can each pick something out to talk about, and we will watch movies after dinner. We always watch Christmas Vacation each year, it's just the start of Christmas to us! LOL! I'm actually going to Blockbuster to rent a few new movies for the weekend as well. The only difference this year
Hey, we geocache too!! I don't go all that much by myself, but my Dad and BIL are HUGE into it so I go with them when I can. I just looked at your profile and see you are from NC. You have probably done some of my BIL's caches--OZGUFF?
