Tubal ligation?...

I didn't know exactly where to put this, but has anyone here had a tubal ligation done?

I'm seriously considering it at this point. Of course, it would be better for Mike to have a vasectomy (I'm aware of that), but he won't do elective surgery.

My gyn suggested Essure, but Mike & I are both thinking tubal ligation might be the better action anyway.

if you go to Essure websight. They have a way of finding doctors in your area that will do the procedure. Most cases are done in the doctors office. No Hospital stay. Also I have spoke with lots of people from that websight that has had the procedure done.

I had my tubes tied 15 years ago when my second child was born.

My DH also refused to have a vas. He was totally done after DS #2. However, I got pregnant again nine months later. I ended up having a mis (that was my second) but got pregnant again five months later and we had DS#3. I pointed out to DH that in the six years we had been married, I had been pregnant five times (plus the fact that I was 40 and midnight feedings and colic was getting old fast) and unless we wanted to have more, one of us had better do something. DH still refused to consider it. I can't take the pill because of migraines and a strong family history of stroke/aneurysms (plus I hated the way it made me feel) and I think other forms of birth control are just a big bother. DH hates to use a condom, so I made an appointment for a tubal. My gyny pointed out to me and DH that it was much less risky for him to have a vas. After my reminding him that if something happened to me in the OR, he would be raising the three boys on his own, he scheduled his vas (he cancelled the appointment twice, but finally went through with it), LOL. A little fear can go a long way.

That being said, one of GFs had one done right after her second C-section and had no problems.

I had a tubal done in December of 1998. Almost 3 months after my youngest dd was born. My OB/GYN doesn't do them immediately following childbirth because in his experience they are more likely fail when done immediately after childbirth (since the body is in "healing" mode due to the birth).

I was 23 years old at the time. I had two children. I'd been married for 2 years. Most OB/GYN's won't do them on someone so young, someone with only 2 kids or someone who has been married for such a short time. I was lucky.

I've never - NOT ONE SINGLE TIME! - regretted having it done. My periods actually got BETTER after I had it done. I no longer have cramps and I went from 8-9 day perids to 3-4 day periods.

I am super happy I had it done and would do it all over again! :0) Dh didn't have a vas (even though he said he would) because our insurance at the time would pay for a tubal 100%, but would only pay 80% of a vas. Since I didn't have a problem having the tubal, we decided to let our insurance pay the full amount vs us paying something out of pocket.

I do not have nickel inside from mine. Mine are cauterized in 4 different places down the length of the tubes. The tubes are essentially closed off in those spots. My OB DID warn me that his way of doing them (burning) is considered the most permanant of all the ways to do it - which includes places clamps on the tubes, cutting, and I know there are at least another couple methods. Since the tubes are burned - there is little chance of it ever being reversed. I didn't care about the reversing side of it -- I cared about it not failing!

I just had my pap done today and asked about a tubal. I'm 41 and my NP said she wouldn't recommend it at my age because sometimes periods get really heavy. She said she recommends an IUD. The one she gave me info about is called Merena. It can actually stop your periods altogether in some women! Sounds good to me! I'll probably get an IUD.

That's exactly what my NP said today that my periods would get heavier, which I don't want. So I'm thinking about the IUD which can stop periods all together.
