Tubal ligation?...

I didn't know exactly where to put this, but has anyone here had a tubal ligation done?

I'm seriously considering it at this point. Of course, it would be better for Mike to have a vasectomy (I'm aware of that), but he won't do elective surgery.

My gyn suggested Essure, but Mike & I are both thinking tubal ligation might be the better action anyway.

Yes, I am. And I'm looking for other options.

I've had a Mirena since June 2006. i had spotting for about 6 months and then very light periods. Now I never really get one, but i do get a crampy feeling every month. i think the Mirena lasts for 5 years. I like it because I can't handle the hormones from bc pills, but the IUD ones don't seem to bother me.

I had a tubal done when I had my son 4 1/2 years ago, I had a C-section so it was easy for me to do. Since then I have had issues with heavy periods....probably NOT due to the tubal. So I am going in on Sept 2nd for endometrial ablation with novasure.

I love having my tubes tied. No worries! LOL!

So, do you like the Mirena a lot better than the pill? I'm really considering getting one. But, I just found out my cousin's girlfriend had to get her IUD surgically removed! It was in the wrong place or something, isn't that usually not very common?
Also, do you notice your PMS symptoms, if you ever had any, are better with Mirena?
It warns that it might cause more mood problems, which is certainly NOT what I need more of! LOL

If I do choose this (and I still am at this point...but I'm still weighing it and reading all of these responses), I might need to remind my doctor about my childbirth issue with the bowel thing.

I promise you, the constipation cramps the next day (that I had never felt before) were far worse than ANY other pain I felt at that time. It took a week to get better!

Then you are most likely right.

I had one after the birth of our third son - he will be 14 in December.

I would wonder why he would want you to go through what is still (as far as I know) a relatively serious procedure when the vasectomy requires only a local anesthesia. My theory was I was the one who had the 9 pound babies he could at least go through that procedure - but he refused too. In hindsight I would do it a wee but differently - not because I regret it but because we never got to the root of how we both really felt about things. Mine was easier because I had a c-section with the third - though they did not also do the tummy tuck I suggested. I think you need to think long and hard before going for permanency. (I was 26 when I had mine done) I think you should also consider going to a couples therapy appointment or two before deciding for sure.

Well, the last surgery (that was medically necessary) that he had ended up being a 5 month ordeal and he nearly bled to death (we were in the ER 3 times for it). The cauterization didn't "take" and we discovered that he has a platelet aggregation dysfunction. So, elective surgery is not on the top of either of our lists.

LOL - that explains it quite a bit better than he simply did not want to while you went under the knife :)

I think you both need to sit down with both Drs. discuss the risks and concerns and benefits of each procedure. Maybe neither of you are really ready right now - and that is ok. I do think weighing all the options with a professional still would be good too - there are definately some things an objective perspective can bring to light.

Also, some of the new long term birth control methods are safe and effective. I must say it is very liberating to not have to worry about it ever - I have only regreted it a few days - and that is just when those mommy emotions come up. Then I remember I don't have a diaper bag any more and get over it :) Also, there are so many unwanted children in our country that I know could adopt if I really wanted more children - perhaps a girl!

It has to feel right for whoever does it because it is not something you can really reconsider.
