Laura, they showed a brief brief on the news from a, maybe a Houston Senator or school teacher, that had cervical cancer and she advocates mandating it because obviously of her experience with the cancer. My only question is, with what you saw on the news, since they haven't done long term testing on this vaccine yet, from what I have read, the manufacturer specifically says that they do not know if this vaccine will have an adverse affect the girls' reproductive systems. Yes cancer may prevent her from having kids, but how do we know that this vaccine couldn't also end up having adverse repercussions on a girls' ability to have children?
I think its just a matter of if a parent wants to give this to their children, that's great, that's their decision, but so early in the life of vaccine, to be mandating it and taking the decision away from their parents is not right.
Your right, but also how do we know that the all allergy meds we take might cause issues in the future, or heck the organic food we eat---I mean who knows what in the future they will say is causing cancer--kind of a scarry thing actually but really who knows!
As I said in my answered post, that I do agree that it is a parents decision and should not be made manditory.

DO you think this should be made manditory or do you think it should be a parents decision and be optional?
I live in Tx. My daughter is right at this age.
I will fight this every step of the way.
This is not fair. I want to have a say in this. I want to know more about why this was pushed so quickly and so suddenly. someones pocket is in this and I do not like. These girls should have more say in what they take and for what reason. They do not even know any future side effects of this drug. How could they just give a child something that might help but harm them in the future??? I will say it again I will fight this every step of the way.

I'm not suprised because even though I'm not going to run and have her vaccinated, one of the most popular complaints against it in the media seems to be this idea that the kids will suddenly think they're PROTECTED and suddenly become promiscuous (sp?). I really like the idea of simply telling her it will prevent her from cervical cancer and NOT going into the sexually transmitted details..not with a preteen anyway!
As usual, our great minds are thinking alike! :P

I haven't decided if I will have my daughter get the vaccine. I plan on researching it further, and have a conversation with my SIL who is responsible for managing drug trials.
Even if the vaccine is perfectly safe, I do not think the government should make it madatory. This should be a parenting decision, and an unvaccinated child does not pose a health risk to those around her.
