Hmmm...we were in Okinawa, Japan from 1994-97...I had never heard of the internet until right before we left...my neighbor's husband was the computer geek who spent all his extra time there so we just shrugged it off as something wierd. When we returned to the states in 1997 my son was in Kindergarten. It was his FIRST GRADE teacher (who was about 115 yrs old) who convinced us of the importance of computers. She taught the kids all kinds of stuff and yes I'm ashamed to say my 1st grader taught me how to use the internet! LOL!!!
Hmmm. I used the computer at my work but without internet from 88 - 93 (Macs in that case) but we bought our fist computer in 1996 and got the internet in Poland in 1997. Back then you could still get a hotmail with your name. LOL There weren't 8 million people taking all the good ones. Only 10 years. That's hard to believe. Things sure have changed.
I first started using a computer in about 4th grade in my elementary school library. This is when floppy disks were actually floppy and the only color on the screen was green. We used to play Oregon Trail (the first edition - haha!)
I think I first perused the Internet in maybe 1999? I still lived in GA so it was around that time when DH and I got our first personal computer. Want to hear something funny? That's also when I first found Parent Soup and joined iVillage. I didn't realize it had been that long!
What year did you first start using a computer? Well, I learned in high school (around 1990), but didn't own my own until 1997.
How about the year you started on the internet? My senior year in high school, I was introduced to Prodigy message boards...but mostly just to read with a group of friends. Then, I had a management information systems class in college in 1993 in which I had to use the Internet for assignments. I started really getting into the Internet just before we got our first computer in 1997.
Well I remember taking a computer class in college and using the computers there for stuff. I don't think I got on the internet until around 2000 when I bought my own computer! JuneMarie
