Update on hand....

I didn't know quite where to put this, but I didn't want it to get lost in another thread....because it hurts to type right now.

I have 2 completely different things. What my reg dr thought was a ganglion cyst is another type of cyst--still benign. The possible Keinbach's disease is actually a benign tumor that he won't do anything about at this time. The cyst--I had two options. Steroid shots starting today, one may get rid of it, may not. Should last at least 3 months, if it only lasts 2-3 weeks, he doesn't want to do it anymore. Second option was surgery, recovery is actually pretty quick on it.

So, I decided to go with the shots & see what happens. I could always do surgery later. But, it wasn't really wasn't HURTING, it was just a discomfort. Wearing the splint all week has actually been more of an aggravation than it was before. And having had the shot today, I'm in pain...but that will go away.

If the shots don't work, I could always plan the surgery around a school holiday (although we're planning Disney for Thanksgiving and they probably don't do surgery over Christmas--well maybe they do because another teacher at my school had surgery over Christmas last year, and there's always Easter which is early next year).

Glad it wasn't anything too serious. Hopefully one shot will do the trick and no surgery will be necessary. Hope it stops hurting soon.

I'm the same way, erring on the conservative side (i.e. steriod shots) before surgery. Are you going to be having blood tests to monitor the dosage of steriods? I know there are many common side effects such as water retention that can be prevented by changing the dosage. Both my mom & a coworker were on prednisone for different health issues. Good luck!

Sorry about your hand, I hope the shots work & you won't need the surgery. Hopefully the 1st shot will work. I would save surgery as a very last resort. Sending lots of good hand vibes your way. dee

I didn't think to ask about that and I didn't think to tell him my history of steroid shots. I had just had one last November, and another one this past May. Both for sinus infections.

Now you've got me worried about something else.

Mike did ask me earlier if I could hit a homerun now when some news footage was on about Barry Bonds and his homeruns. LOL No, I don't think steroids would even help me!
