Hi! My name is Laura and I have an 11 year old dd,gabrielle.I posted when Gabby was a babyand in early elem school.I still remember Alaygator, from when the kids were small.Gabrielle will be starting 6th grade the 27th of Aug.She is really not looking forward to going back. She does awsome in school, but the work load is crazy for a 5th or 6th grader.Last year she often had 2 hours a night. She is looking forward to seeing some of her friends though! For the most part Gab is pretty even tempered, but the some of the girl stuff drives me nuts. She can also be a drama queen.Right now Gabby is obsessed with fashion and she dances 6 hours a week. She plans to be a lawyer or a fashion designer when she grows up.Anyway I look forward to posting more often.Laura and Gabrielle

"She does awsome in school, but the work load is crazy for a 5th or 6th grader.Last year she often had 2 hours a night."

When my daughter was in fifth grade there were months were she averaged four hours of homework per night. I know because I kept track. This included weekends.

Last year was a bit lighter, especially during the first term. We would still consider two hours of homework a light night.

Welcome Laura, glad you found us. My DD is 12 and going into Grade 7. I am a bit concerned about the work this year as she has had virtually no homework in her life. She's almost always been able to finish her work in class and the teachers didn't believe in homework simply for the sake of doing something. So we'll see how it goes this year. Lots of great ladies on this board and I look forward to getting to know you and your family.

Hey Laura! I remember you!! Gabster!

Glad to have you join us!

I'll admit that I hadn't looked at this post (I saw the name & didn't recognize it) until after I saw another post of yours and said that MUST be her! (I've been very selective in what posts I open...I'm so drained & tired & have absolutely no time since school started!)

Tam, I wish our teachers were like yours! My girls have had homework since Kindergarten! They now usually average 2 hours a night minimum. We'll see how this year goes...6th and 8th grade! AAH! we're cleaning up their desks, school starts next week, the 27th. You wouldn't believe all the pens, pencils, felt pens, crayons and stuff I found!I separated them all in different boxes, then I'm going to tell them we don't need to buy many school supplies at all!
