I was soooooo proud of my kids this weekend! Friday night Megan was in a horseback riding show. We drove 2 hours and got there in plenty of time. She was in great mood and full of confidence. Then during warmups her horse ( a thoroughbred known to be high-strung) nearly threw her. She was visibly shaken but carried on. She came to me after warm ups in tears but really wanted to compete so she did. She was scared but got out there, did her thing, and took third place.

Saturday both kids took part in a swim club fundraiser for a rare form of cancer that took a former swimmer and coach. Any swimmer that raised $50 or more got a t-shirt. Our area is pretty affluent and in most cases, the parents just write a check and the kids get a t-shirt. We couldn't give $100 (and I think they need to realize it's about more than writing a check anyway) and the kids really wanted the shirts and wanted to support the cause so they each put in $50 of their own money in the morning and then spent 3 hours fundraising door to door in the afternoon after swimming 90 minutes of relays in the morning. They raised $90 and Evan said they would just consider the last $10 their personal contribution. :)

I've been questioning my parenting a lot lately so this made me feel really good!

It must have been great to see emotional growth and compassion coming from your kids.

I can't imagine what you're questioning, because your kids sound awesome- talented and compassionate. a winning combination!!

Thanks Moss. I mentioned the fund raising because the whole thing was VERY out of character for them, especially Evan. He can be very selfish and mean sometimes.

One of these days I'll post some riding pictures of Megan. Right now my parents take most of the pictures and post them to mobile me and I'm not sure how to pull them from that site.

Thanks Theresa. I've heard a lot of disrespectful and selfish talk from them lately and been getting quite upset with them about it. The fact that my kids would speak that way makes me wonder if I set the right example as a parent and if I'm using the right methods to change their behavior. Guess we're doing okay. :)

Thanks. Gives me a little more strength to continue doing what I'm doing. How are you these days?
