Finally dh has gotten some time off approved and we are taking the ds to Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. We are also going to see my youngest brother who lives about 60 miles north of there too. The ds are very excited about going and we are all looking forward to this trip! We are going to be gone the week of July 20th and when we get back the ds will have only two weeks left of summer vacation. My question is other than Gameboys and our Harry Potter book what would you suggest we take to keep them occupied in the motel? Also if you have been to this theme park did you like it and if so what were your favorite parts?

That's great dh got time off and you're going on vacation! I was to Universal more than 10 years ago, pre-kids, so I don't have any advice for you.

As far as hotel entertainment goes... regular playing cards and UNO cards are great, and easy to pack. Also, my kids have gotten a lot of use out of the travel version of "Guess Who?". Check Toys R Us and KBToys. There are travel versions of many traditional board games, including Battleships. You can get some ideas on-line.

Don't forget Mad Libs, Puzzle Books (word finds, mazes, whatever they like). Also, magazines like SIKids and Nickelodean. Even if you don't subscribe, you can pick up issues for them for the trip.

Have fun!

How exciting!! I've never been to Universal Studios, so I can't help with that - but I'm hoping for a blow-by-blow account of the park when you get back. I've heard it's quite impressive.

As for entertainment, the only other thing that immediately popped into mind was to take some movies along (assuming that the motel has a VCR and/or DVD player available). Are word puzzle books or some travel sized board games a possibility? Sean really likes to play Yahtzee for example. Or you could try keeping them so busy that they fall into bed asleep as soon as you all walk in the door. Though in my experience, if the kids are *that* tired, I'm in much worse shape so that probably wouldn't work too well ;-).

Have a great time!!

Best Always,
