Thought I better shut the door or the neighbors might think we are strangling a duck. LOL She learned to play the oboe last night and now she's up and first thing she did this morning was talke it out. She's learning to play Jingle Bells. LOL She can generally get a pretty good sound, she just has trouble remembering the fingering yet, but it will come.

LOL! Welcome to the world of music!

My oldest has been playing violin for 4 years now. And at first, it sounded like there was a cat with an issue in the house (lol). She's actually gotten quite good at it.

Her sister is going to play viola this year, that ought to be interesting. And she's thinking next year about band

Good for her! It is hard at first though! lol! Those pesky reeds can make quite the noise. Ds can't wait to play in band, but he has to wait for next year, 5th grade for that. He could have started orchestra this year. Dd has been playing the flute for 4 years now and bought a piccallo this summer.

Good luck to Kristen on learning how to play & patience to u mom. At least Rach has decided to stop instrumental music now she's in MS so we're getting a break ;-) until next yr when Jamie can take it once a wk in ES.

I don't mind really. I know my grandparents were so patient with me and the clarinet when I was young. Clarinet is a lot squeakier than the oboe. I have such good memories of the music program that I have no problem with her practicing. I rather enjoy it. :-) Squeaks and all. I bought her a couple of more reeds yesterday and a collapsable music stand so she can really get warmed up now.

Tam, I know DH says woodwinds are one of the hardest instruments to learn how to play since u have to perfect the breathing technique. Other than sax, oboe is one of the harder instruments to play he said so obviously Kristen (and mom) are up to the challenge!

I am amazed how well she is doing. She gets a really good sound out of it and right now she's just having trouble remembering the fingering and she hates F. LOL But she's doing pretty good for never trying really until Friday. There are 6 oboes in Grade 7. I'm not sure if she'll take additional lessons or not. She's not interested right now but we'll see in a month or so if she's ready to have some extra help. With a huge band class its hard for the teacher to pay much individual attention to the kids.
