I'm wondering how some of you feel about your daughters wearing make-up. I've been informed by my daughter who is finishing up the 5th grade tomorrow, that the vast majority of girls in her class wear make-up. My feeling is that 11 is too young to be wearing make-up. I told her that she could start wearing make-up in 7th grade, cuz that is when I started wearing it. Am I being strict? I just think she is trying to grow up too fast. What is your opinion on this?

My DD will also be in 6th grade next year and we have decided that she will be allowed to wear lip gloss, and a very light blush picked out by me. In 7th we will add mascara and eyeshadow to it, and then in 8th she can wear lipstick and base. DD is very pale and I can see why she wants some blush. I think make-up is a decision between child and parent, and each child is diffrent. Dd does dance and gymnastics, so she wears makeup for performances, and knows how to put it on. I just dont think it is needed much at this age.

I don't have a daughter so take my opinion for what it's worth, but I would compromise on some form of makeup perhaps as was mentioned a pale lip gloss and a bit of blush or mascara.

My 10.5yo is only allowed to wear make-up for special performances like the school play or a piano or violin recital. She has a perfect complexion and beautiful coloring, and she doesn't need to enhance it. Personally, I think 11 is too young for make-up.

My DD knows that "everybody else is doing it" doesn't cut much weight with me.

Is it my imagination, or are kids growing up alot faster than they have in the past? Gosh, I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was 13!!(I thought my dad was an ogre though!lol) My dd is 10.5, so fortunately this hasn't come up, she does wear the glittery lip gloss once in awhile, but that's because of chapped lips, so I don't count that.

I don't think you are being strict at all. Dd is finishing 4th grade and is not allowed to wear make up. I told her in 5th grade, she will be allowed to wear clear or more natural nail colors and lip gloss. That will be it for a few years. Towards the end of Junior High, she will be allowed some blush and some lipstick. Then in high school, more makeup, but it can still be vetoed by me.

Tracie, ITA that 11yo 6th grade is too young. However, I do know that lots of girls do start wearing some makeup that young. My dd is almost 12, and finishing 6th grade. However, she has NO interest in makeup at all! She will be starting to attend fancy parties for friends' Bar/Bat Mitzvah in June, and if she wanted to wear a little blush, natural lip color and mascara, I would allow it. (Although

Oh this is a daily fight at our house...I don't mind the lip gloss or glitter eye stuff as long
