I have done things like go in and read to them, and I have gone in to talk about living in Venezuela and France.

Kayleigh is going into 8th grade and there's not much opportunity to volunteer in the middle school.

I used to do more when she was younger, now I only volunteer with the band program. When there are concerts I am there early to do whatever. Sometimes I patrol the hallways keeping them quiet, sometimes taking money at the door or lately I've been working the bake sale/snack table at the back of the room. Because I work full-time there is not much opportunity and now that she's older she no longer wants me to go on field trips. That's okay though.

When we lived in Michigan and Jordyn was in elementary school I volunteered here and there, but since moving to Texas I don't, partly because she's in middle school, and partly because you have to go through a background check and a 4 hour volunteering course, which frankly is a PITA, especially since I would only be able to volunteer once or twice a year at most.

Since I'm at home, I try to volunteer fairly often. Last year I was a room mom for Megan's 2nd grade class, served lunch at her school several times, and ran a game at field day. I shelved books at the middle school and helped out in Evan's classroom several times as well. I'm not the "run the PTA" type but I try to help out when I can. My mom was a teacher and I know the kind of hours they put in and the kind of pay they get so I feel like any time I can make their lives easier it's worth it. Besides, Evan can be a challenge and both kids have been identified as "gifted" which means extra work for the teachers (they get additional homework and different reading, math, and spelling than most of the other kids) so I like to show them I appreciate that.

I used to volunteer at my DD's school when she was in Pre-k thru 2nd. But then my son began having problems with his speech at age 3. So A lot of my time when to helping him with Therapy. And He started school at age 3. So I started visiting the school and having contact with all the staff and a few teachers. Then, my DD started having trouble reading and in 3rd grade we found out she has ADHD.. So I spent a lot of time at the school. I helped out when I could, and where I could. I always baked stuff for sales, and sent in the required items for Festivals and such. This past school year we switched to another school. So I didnt feel comfortable being there as offten, Although I really was, cause I had to help my DD and DS get adjusted to a new school, staff, and teachers. Not to mention, I was caring for my brother in law's 3 children.. So I was constantly meeting with thier teachers as well.. This year, Its just my two children.. So Im hoping to get back into the swing of helping with a few things. I also work full time, so Ill bake things, and send in the required items. But I wont be joining the PTA, its a little too much of a committment.

PS. I love school, I cant wait for DD to start Middle school. I hope she will enjoy it. But I think High School where be where I will volunteer the most!

Yes I do volunteer at the school. At the elementary school I volunteer in the classroom, and I am the school yearbook editor and I am on the PTA-Secretary.

At the Middle school, I will be on the PTA board as well and I will hope to volunteer where they can use me. I am also hoping of being part of band boosters.

I am also a substitute campus supervisor at the elementary school.
