Yes she does. She got it in Grade 5 when she started coming home on her own. We use it quite alot but mostly for when she is outside playing I don't have to track her down, she has more freedom with it. She has no extras. We are family plan so I think we have unlimited between ourselves. I have voice mail she doesn't. She does not text, I think we have to pay for all texts or most of them. She NEVER uses it to call her friends. It is for communication between her and I, that's it. Of course I allow her to lend it to friends in the case of someone waiting at school and their parents aren't showing up they can try and phone home, I consider that just good manners, but she has not ever come close to her minutes allowed.

I am getting her a new one as her phone has taken a beating in the last 18 months. Its a Nokia and its tough but she has it at the playground and it gets sand in it, gets dropped (mine too LOL), the antenna thing is cracked and now her's has started giving a weird message and she has to take the SIM card out and put it back in to get it work. I actually bought us both new Razrs on ebay. If I want to buy a Razr from my service provider I have to renew with a 3 year contract (still have 18 months left) and still pay $50 for pay $400 for a new one with no contract. So I got us new ones unlocked for $100 each. I fell in love with the red one and got her the pink one. So when they arrive we'll have new phones. I accidentally bid on another phoned locked to my service provider but it was only $15 so I think she can use that one when she's out playing and keep the good phone for less active times. We'll see how it all works out when they arrive.

I don't have a problem with kids having phones obviously, but if people say their kid doesn't need one that is fine too. If I was a SAHM I likely would have not have gotten it for her. It gave me a sense of security and now its just a convenience we use to keep in touch.

Mackenzie's is one of the mini flip phones and it takes pictures, texts and all that. She's not allowed on the internet AT ALL, and we were paying 10 cents for individual text messages. Now they've gone up 15 cents and they're adding up so I just recently added the unlimited texting for $5 to her line. I actually use texting to contact my kids faster, exp. when they're in school and I don't want to accidentally make their phones ring! Because we move so much we don't keep a home phone anymore, so we have a large family plan with nationwide coverage, no long distance, no roaming. As long as they do it on weekends, they can call any friend/family member in the country!

No, but she wants one. Why? I don't know--she doesn't even use the home phone.

And she doesn't need one yet because I'm home when she gets home (she couldn't bring it to school anyway--district rule) and I take her wherever she needs to go or if someone else does, they have a phone.

We got AJ a cell phone last Dec when there were some really great deals on them right before Christmas. He had been wanting one forever, and now with him having more freedom at the mall, being at friend's houses, etc, he really needed one. His phone has just about everything a normal cell has these days, but he especially loves to take and

Alex is getting one. He hasn't needed one but now that he is roaming around town on his own it is easier to track him down.

We own our own small business so we each have phones as do key employees, so we added my son on and just rolled him into the extensive amounts of minutes we have.

Isaiah got his cell phone for his 10th bday last year...with all perks. Last month he used quite a few text messages but other than that, we've had no problems with the bill and him

Edited to add: Note to Caroline, remember last year our kids got RAZR's, right? Now he's asking for a Blackberry or Pocket PC. He may get mine after the new one is released but come on....an 11 year old with a BB?? Sheesh........his argument? I need it to stay organized and I got straight A's!
