I Am Wednesday Wondering.....

What your thoughts are on NBC airing the suicide tape and letters of the Virginia Tech killer?

DO you think they did the right thing?

I think this was an unfortunate event. Sad

But to show it on the air is wrong. Too much attention to someone who did not have any attention growing up? well thats too much. The victims are the ones hurt here. why run it into the ground. people are dieing every day because of someone else, why should the media run it into the ground.

I'm not real thrilled with them airing the tape, HOWEVER..I will clearly state that if word of it had gotten out and they hadn't shown it then the consipiracy theorists would have been blaming everyone from Bush to the 9/11 terrorists! LOL! Some people may have felt the need to watch it for their own closure but for myself..I executed my American right to use my remote for my tv!

Yes I do feel like they were giving him what he wanted, fame, power and attention. He apparently spend a great deal of time making this tape so they played right into his demands, even after death.

I understand that most families were against airing it. It only gives the guy more "fame" or infamy I suppose and there was nothing on there that really helped explain. I don't think (I've never heard it but heard pieces) that he ever said "I hated teacher X because she did this. I'm angry at these students because they did this to me". It was just the ramblings of a crazy guy and why should be give him more coverage. Why could I pick his face out of a line-up but not any dead students?

Our public broadcaster chose to NOT air any of the tape or read the transcript. They felt it might inspire copycats and why give the guy anymore glory. The police, forensic psycologists and others can use those tapes to maybe prevent future attacks but it is pure voyeurism which makes the public want to hear it. If the family want to hear it they could ask privately that the police let them listen but its not necessary for all of us hear his rant.

I don't think they should have showed it. He got what he wanted, attention.
