Does your 10-14 yr old receive an allowance? If so how much do they get a week?
Do they have a savings account and are they required to put money in there regularly?

You know she hasn't asked but when she tells us her friends get one plus they have "chores" we tell her she doesn't have chores so......

Not yet altho they both have educational savings plans we have started & they save money in their piggy banks.

She gets $25/month and I am "supposed" to put it directly into her account. I've been really slack the last few months and have just been buying her what she wants within reason. That means a couple of bucks for the donut shop or the odd thing at the dollar store. But if she wants something big, like the $30 game, she had to use her own money for that. So I'm probably coming out ahead of the game in the money department because I don't spend $25/month on little things for her.

She has a savings account we use for it, but because its easier and I can use my debit card (its connected to my card) to pay for things. We don't have rules about $X must be saved vs spent. Its her money. Because she wants to go to a very expensive summer camp the deal with she has to use birthday and Christmas money towards that and she was open to that. But we don't have a formal arrangement. Besides the allowance she doesn't get much money.

No allowance.

They both have savings accounts that were started when they were born. Almost all checks they receive get deposited into there. Maybe that's why my Mom started giving them CASH instead of checks! ;-)

Do they have a savings account and are they required to put money in there regularly? She has a piggy bank in her room. She leaves$5. out of it&the rest goes into the piggy bank..When it gets full,we go to the bank &deposit it into her savings account..If she wants something pretty expensive, she saves up for it(out of her $5.oo)
My twins get a monthly allowance of $52 (which is based on a formula of $1 per year of age per week, so will increase as they get older). In a couple of years their allowance will change from monthly to quarterly (4 x a year), then later on 2 x a year, and finally 1 x a year.
They have a savings account and are free to put money in/out as they chose.

No allowance here. I get him what he needs when he needs it. (the dances, field trips, etc., band trip spending money, group t-shirts, etc., I pay for those things as they come up). He does have a savings account, which we deposit most birthday/Christmas money into. He is allowed to save out a little as spending cash. He's not a big spender though. He usually gets gift cards for birthday/Christmas from my Mom, and he uses those when he wants something. Generally, though, he doesn't get toys/games/CD's, etc. unless it's an occasion like his birthday or Christmas.
(side note: our budget is so tight that I don't even get $10 a week to spend as I want. Neither does my DH.)

No allowance.
And we should get her a savings account because she's been saving her money for a good long time and has enough that needs to be put in the bank now. She has been very frugal the past year with her money.
We're also getting her into the mindset of charity donations. She won $50 in a raffle a few weeks ago. The raffle was a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis and I convinced her to give $5 (10%) of her winnings back to CF.

She does get money by doing some "odd" things around the house. Things I do not think are "her responsibility" if she does the dishes thats helping out. If she mows the lawn then that is worth money. Things that is helping me out around the house is not chores its helping me, she should not get paid for those types of things. But if she does something that I consider her normal things she should help me out with then I will pay her for those. As for a savings account, yes she has one and uses it well.
