What slang words do you allow your tween/teen to say at home...like "crap"...."darn"...."shut up"..."loser"...etc.
Are you pretty lenient on this or are you pretty strict?
Has your tween/teen said actual cuss words before?

This is my absolute worst bad habit!!! When I get angry they just come out. I need to come up with some alternatives for myself. Fortunately the kids haven't picked up using them much. Evan uses them only when he's really mad and there are always consequences. Megan has used a word once or twice but I use them when I'm really angry and she doesn't like it when I'm angry so she doesn't use them.
There are a few substitutes I will allow but it all depends on context and the intent of the usage. If it's designed to hurt or put down another person, no way!

My daughter(13) got called a skanky barbie yesterday by some girl she titled..."EMO"???
The girl was standing in a doorway and wouldn't move and several girls were afraid to ask her to move so they were just standing there, so Emily pushed through and said EXCUSE ME your standing right in everyones way.

I am pretty strict with the slang around here...mainly because I have an almost 5 year old that repeats everything!!!!!

Two stories popped in my head...
The first when my son was in a language delayed preschool. His dad can let a few words fly occasionally. He was working on a lego project and couldn't get it together and out comes... d@m# it! (I did chuckle and get mortified at the same time).
The next way less cute incident happened last summer. For some reason I decided to spend a few days with my cousin and her loudmouth obnoxious husband and their 2 cute kids at their vacation house on the other side of the chesapeake. Well... he uses language that would make a sailor blush. He was having a fit about something and calls his wife (my cousin) and F'ing Cword. And I don't even mean once, the verbal abuse was beyond shocking. So later on her son was telling me something that I couldn't understand and I was saying... did you say stupid shoe? And my cousin is all alarmed... oh, aunt Amy, we don't use the s word in this house. So I turned to her and said... but it's okay for your husband to call you the fing cword? Gee, I'd pick stupid over that anyday.

Jackie does not say those things. She actually corrects me when I say them though. Thats kind of funny. stupid is a cuss word in our house. Jackie gets all bent out of shape when she hears those words. And corrects them.
If jackie were to say them I would just correct her.
In preschool my daughter was very speech delayed and one of her therapists muttered

This hasn't really been an issue for us because Kayleigh really hasn't found a need for these words, except occasionally a** in a joking aroung situation and as long as that's what it is, I don't really care.
