*How often your 10-14 year olds read? My kids have to read for 30 minutes every day before bed.

*Do you have to make them read or do they do it volunteeringly? Dd does read on her own. As she is getting older, she is reading on her own more and more

wow i feel bad now
everyone has really good readers, even if it is required at school.
Jackie hates to read. So when we got into public school they have an assignment to write a summary on a certain book. They are told they have to check out a book in a certain section to read. Then twice a week for a grade they have to write a summary on the book. Just a page summary thats it. But Jackie refused to do it. I read the book aloud to her and had her dictate to me the summary. I wrote it in her words and then she copied it. that is how she did her assignment. She also has an AR test on the books. I know i did it for her and i should not but.... her grade still are not improving and i am still trying to explain to her what gets the grades done. So now they have another program and she picks up a book and reads it in two days does her assignments early and picks the next book out. She loves it. I do not know why but it works now, so I am happy. And I was getting good grades on those summary's too. I do not know if she remembers to tell her teacher that she needs to take the AR test or not but we are working on that one... So for now it works.

Aly reads ALL the time. She loves to read. We own over 1000 children and young adult books (I had a counting system that I quit doing this past fall when we were around 1,080...I have since ordered an average of 8-10 new books each month in book orders..most of them free from bonus points), and she checks out from her school library, our local parish library, and a nearby parish library.

I hopefully don't have to answer the second question....LOL.
