Wednesday Wondering

I was Wednesday Wondering if you share any hobbies with your tween/teens?
Do you take any classes together or have something you do together?
(I know someone who takes a tap class with her DD)

Since my DS usually goes to bed later than the little ones we will play cards or a board game together. It gives us a little bit of quality time that he don't get with the little ones up.

My DD would die if I took a class with her. LOL She told me so. We do skate together and she likes to sew sometimes which I do, but she only does stragitht lines. But that's about it. We don't really have alot of common crafts or stuff we do unless you count computer stuff. Baking maybe, we like to bake together but that's not something we do daily or even weekly.

I have taken yoga classes with jackie for a while before. Miss flexable, watch how much better I can be than you... She and I enjoyed them but its on Monday nights and that night is major homework night.. If she could just get it done quick we could go. BUT... i do spend time doing things with her..... we like to paint. And we rollerblade and ride bikes together......we scrapbook together and we tend to do alot of things together. But its just me and her so its hard not to do everything together.

My son snowboards like dad and my daughter skis along beside them while I keep the table at the bar warm! :P

I think my son would be more willing to take a class with me but my daughter is so resistant to instruction from me that it would be a waste of time for us! I want to put her in a cake decorating class but I know if I was there and tried to show an interest in her work or tried help her that she'd freak out on me! I have been a professional seamstress for almost 13 years and even though she's interested, I haven't been able to teach her enough for us to enjoy doing it together. Heck I even taught swim lessons for six years and my own kids won't let me teach them proper stroke techiques! The only reason my daughter skis is because we paid a huge chunck on money for professional classes for her..and she STILL tried to tell the instructor she knew what she was doing..while laying face down in the snow of course!

I would LOVE to be able to share a hobby or take a class with my daughter..sniff...

I don't really share any crafts or hobbies with Evan (he's definitely a boy and I'm definitely a girl) but he and dh go to martial arts and have dinner together every Wednesday night. I do play piano with Megan (she's only 6). She's taking Suzuki lessons so parents are sort of a teacher during the week and I guide practice daily (well almost) sessions. On Wednesdays she has a musicianship class that we attend together. Afterwards we have dinner and read or play board games. When the weather gets better and it's lighter later in the day, I'd like to make this a little more active time (bike ride, trip to the park, etc.)

Unfortunately, my DS11 and I have absolutely nothing in common. DH really has nothing in common with him either, aside from computers and video games. DS is a total sports freak, and DH and I aren't really sports-minded. I'll sit and watch, and I know what is going on, but I don't live and breath it. DS is very into the sports news, statistics, etc. and can pretty much tell you anything about any player, where they are from, what team they are with, if they've been traded, etc. Sorry, but not my cup of tea! LOL

DS7 and DH have more in common than DS11 and DH.

Being the only female here, I'm kinda left out in the cold...LOL

We do things as a family and dd and I do things together too. We as a family take tae kwon do together. I go skiing with the kids once in while and dh has joined us a few times. We belong to a canoe club and go camping and boating with them a few times too. Dd and I go to a scrapbooking club at her school together a few times a year or at church. We also do stamping as well. I am her scout leader, so we go away together for that as well. I volunteer at her school's activity nights once or twice a year as well. We do some volunteer work togehter too. We spend a lot of time together!

When I hsed her in 4th & 5th grades we did all kinds of projects together! Also, I've been one of her Girl Scout leaders throughout Juniors, so there's a lot of "togetherness" in that. We've taken a family pottery class that got dh, me and both kids involved (plus a 20yo cousin at one of the lessons!). I've been playing in a handbell choir for several years now and since dd recently turned 12 she's old enough to join, so now we play handbells together. The choir director tells Aubrey that if I nudge her too much when she misses her note (bell) she should nudge me back. LOL!
