I Was Wednesday Wondering....
With the majority of us feeling cold weather---wether we live in states where we are suppose to feel cold weather, or weather we live in warm states that are getting some chilly weather--most of us are facing it!
So....what kinds of things do you do to keep warm?

Well, we certainly do take advantage of the fact that we have two fireplaces.

We spend more time indoors. As far as activities... we do the same old same old. Play board games, chess, cribbage, read, etc.. Weather doesn't change that much. As for cooking, I cook more soups in the winter.
Think warm thoughts.. Our actual temps for Friday will be a high of 7 degrees with the windchill around -12.

Well, normally its rainy and cold in CA for winter. But not this cold!! So we definitely run the heater more. I make "warm" food- soups, stews and chili. We watch more movies than EVER and we all convene in the family room more than EVER- around the fireplace.

We wear warmer pajamas and sweatshirts in the house with thick warm socks.
Do you make certain "warm" foods?
I do make Chilli & Potato Soup and bake sometimes to keep the house warm.
Does your family watch more movies and play more games?
Yes we rent more movies, right now my oldest and I are renting the first two seasons of Grey's Anatomy and watching several episodes in one sitting. We also work a difficult jigsaw puzzle during the winter months. She likes the hard ones that dont have connecting edge pieces or there are several similar items in the puzzle. My youngest enjoys this too, but the middle daughter HATES it!

I'm also taking adavnatage of this being a good time to get major cleaning done inside the house.
DH and Hannah get out in the snow and cold whenever they can. They really enjoy cross country skiing.
I have hot cider, hot choc around to warm us up. I also make comfort food that fill the belly.
60!?!?!
So....what kinds of things do you do to keep warm? We have a gas fireplace that has been running non-stop while we're home..the dogs lay in bean bags right in front of it like it's their 'hero'! We dress warmer in the house, sweats, sweaters and socks! I'm now the hot tea queen, seems like I'm always carrying around a mug to sip on.
Do you make certain "warm" foods? I am the "Queen of the Crockpot" and "Soup Goddess" ...Southwestern Potato and Corn Chowder is my specialty! I have a panini maker so soup and grilled sandwiches are a staple for dinner. I have another dish, a Smoky Cheddar Mac N Cheese with Andouille sausage and tomatoes that has been a constant request too! I guess you'd say comfort foods..no wonder we pack on so much blubber in the winter! :)
Does your family watch more movies and play more games? Oh yes. I'm usually the "get outside and play" mom, but after 5 straight weeks of snow I've let up and gotten much more flexible on the computer and video games. We watched the entire 24 series over Christmas and have definitely spent more time in front of the tv. DH and I DO enjoy making the kids to play tons of board games (Una Attack, anyone?) just to unplug them!
What kinds of things do you do during the colder months? We take the kids to the rec center in our neighborhood at least once a weekend to shake out the cobwebs, although they did kick my daughter out of the gym this time cause she wasn't 14..we were all mad because she was actually running on the treadmill, not playing in there! DH and ds both snowboard and dd likes to ski...I tried it and found my place is better at the bar! :)
I will admit that since we've have SO MUCH snow and ice, I have gone nuts being stuck at home...I have gotten brave and just GONE...driving in this stuff is a challenge but it doesn't even phase this South Texas Girl anymore!
Sending warm hugs to all and hoping to see my grass before May....
Denise in Denver!
