I Was Wednesday Wondering....
Does your tween/teen have PE everyday?
Do they have to change or do they just wear their street clothes?
IF they change, what do they have to change into?
Please remind us of your child's age when answering!

Rachel, age 10 - 5th gr, has PE once a week and they just wear their regular clothes since there is no locker room to change. I think my ydd age 7, 2nd gr only has PE once a wk too (she had it twice in 1st gr)

Connor is in the 8th grade (12 years old) and has PE everyday for one trimester. He has to change in to sweatpants and a T-shirt.

In 7th grade Sara has PE in 4 times a week. Wednesday's are early days and they don't go to PE or Enrichement. We do not have any space to change clothes (even in the new school) so they kids don't change. (The junior high across the street does have locker rooms and requires the kids to own gym uniforms.) The kids are required to wear clothes that they can move in. When we move into our new school, they are going to require the kids to wear PE "shirts". This is mostly because the new school will use a city park for some of their activities and want the kids to be easly identifiable. But they still won't have anywhere to change. Probbably the shirt will be bought large and the kids will slip in on over their other clothes. Not a great solution when it's hot out.
Sara is in 7th grade. She is 11.. and counting the days till she is 12.

WHAT??? Where do you live that PE isn't mandated at this age? I was honestly suprised when I moved to CA and found out that only 2 years of PE in mandated in H.S. Our school is on blocks and they still get PE.
In my district they offer "Zero Period" PE. If you want to take extra enrichment classes (like language or student council or music). You pay a fee of about 300 dollars a year and the kids go to school and hour early for PE, leaving when they would take PE open for an extra class. Since it's entirely option they can get away with the fee. This is one of the ways our district can afford extra's not available to all public schools.
