I Was Wednesday Wondering......

Does your tween/teen take their lunch or eat at school?

If they take their lunch mostly---what kinds of things do they take?
DO you pack their lunch or do they?

If they eat at school mostly--what kinds of things does your school offer?
On average what does the lunch cost?

Rach mostly takes her lunch -- DH or I usually pack it since we also make Jamie's when she doesn't buy too. We usually bring our lunches to work so we make them all at the same time. Most of the time she brings peanut butter sandwiches (she loves peanut butter, I'm surprised she hasn't turned into a peanut! Obviously no allergy problems w/her, LOL). I buy snack size chips/popcorn, baby carrots & Go-gurts (from the freezer, which melt by the time lunch rolls around for her), fruit like a banana, plum or apple then a dessert like Snackwells or mini Chips Ahoy. Plus a Capri Sun to drink. Occasionally she likes a ham sandwich but she is a critter of habit like DH *grin*

The school lunch price went up to $2.25 this yr & breakfast is $1.25 if they want that. The choices are usually pretty good since the school system is nutrition conscious now & limiting the sugar & fat (no more doughnuts for example).

*** Quinn eats at school. I've only made lunches when he went on field trips. The lunches at his schools are good.

If they take their lunch mostly---what kinds of things do they take?
DO you pack their lunch or do they?
*** NA

If they eat at school mostly--what kinds of things does your school offer?
On average what does the lunch cost?
*** A choice between 2 entrees. Then they get to choose 2 veggies out of 4 (I think). One roll, a piece of fruit (Quinn always gets an apple) & milk. At his school, you cann't get fries as a veggie. The kids have to buy them separate in addition to a plate meal. Also, there is another area that sells cookies & other extras. Every Thursday Quinn gets an order of moz. cheese sticks, 5 for $1. Everyday, he gets a sugar cookie. It cost 35cents. The basic lunch cost $2.25. I think that is fair. However, I think that the breakfast cost too much & they don't have a good selection so he eats breakfast at home.

1. DD's school does not have a cafteria so they take their own lunch. They are not permitted to leave school property w/o parental consent so there is no running to the corner store.

2. Most days i still pack their lunch even though i know they are capable. It somehow makes me feel like a better mom b/c i know what they are having. Tues and Friday were pizza day last year so i would let them order a slice....oops i guess that means i was incorrect for question #1. Other days they have carrots and dip, 1-2 pieces of fruit, a juice box, a bottle of water, thinsations (not daily) and either a small turkey sub or a chicken caesar salad.

3. Pizza is a buck a slice.
