Cheryl, when I lived back in Michigan, my stylist I went to school with, she was a year older and her brother was a good friend of mine was a year younger. I would get cut and highlights done for $60, and she worked in a regular salon. It was such a shell shock to come down here and pay $50-60 for a haircut and $150 for highlights! That's partially why I went to doing my hair color from a box, but once in a great while I splurge and have it done professionally.

So now I don't feel bad after reading how much you guys pay for haircuts.

The lady I go to was from a church we went to years ago.  Her daughter and Kristen were the same age- and when they were little friends.  So it's kind of nice seeing her- I get to hear how her daughter's doing, how people at the church we used to go to are doing (it has since closed but many people there go to her for haircuts).  Kind of like the Cheers of hairdressers LOL.

Her hair cuts are $25.  I get mine highlighted to hide the grey- that's $50.  But she's operating a business out of her own home, she's the only employee, so that's why her rates are what they are.  I think they're comparable to what local salons charge- I don't really know since I haven't been to one in years......

I keep telling her if/when she retires (she's several years older than me and her husband had a stroke earlier this year) don't know what I'll do.  Her daughter is currently in beauty school, I'm assuming that she may just help her mom/ take over her business one day........

Ya, its hard when you get hooked! LOL! I had a groupon for this guy for a cut and partial highlights, I paid extra to have him just overall color it, so I don't even know what it would cost to have it fully colored. I should call him and ask. He added a toner to my color which I had never had done before, it got rid of the ashiness of my color which i think was key! When we go to Michigan next summer I will have my old stylist do the color for me, just debating if I want to wait that long or not. Maybe I'll wait and use my birthday money from my mom and grandmother next month to get it done again.

I'm in pretty much the same situation. A friend of a friend who works at a fancy schmancy salon cuts my hair at his house so I pay $40 instead of $100. I go someplace expensive for my color too. My mom came with me the first time (and paid) to help describe the color I wanted and act as moral support. I really liked it and now I'm hooked on this place.

Whohoo!  We go to see the college student for the first time next weekend (I don't know if that's a whohoo or a worry LOL)

Whines.  Ok I have 7 different job applications just "floating out there".  4 different state ones, a temp job, a job putting out merchandise for Macy's and one with a call center I previously applied to but didn't get.  Could one of them PLEASE call me to say they want me to work for them?  Pretty please???????????????

Worries:  Money.  The 11 year old cat.

Whatever:  Becca has her permit.  Though I really want her to be driving, I really don't know if I want to deal with behind-the-wheel stuff with her since "I" was the one who had to deal with Kristen and she's STILL got work to do on driving.  Not to mention Becca has no fear of anything........

Cheryl, I probably shouldn't have opened it, I actually thought it might be that national merit scholarship stuff from her PSAT scores. So I opened it, looked at it (since i could see "Congratulations" from in the window) and then I put it back in and sealed it back up (it was only half sealed). LOL! So she'll have no idea I even opened it, and I am not telling her, she's been blah about me opening her mail the last 6 months, so I normally don't touch any of it any longer.

Congrats to Kristen on it! Again, I have no idea what it means, she didn't get one after her sophomore year testing, so I assume it had something to do with either the amount of tests she took or the 5 she got on her stats test.

I go to 2 different places. I have my lady that cuts my hair, love her and she thins it out really well, but its $40 for the cut, which is actually cheaper, it used to be $60, but she moved places and has a smaller overhead cost, so dropped her rates a bit, so its $50 after tip. Then I go to this amazing guy who does color, but he is super super expensive, which is why I don't do it often. I am looking at switching to an all organic hair place and seeing how i like them, but I hate switching and have it mess up. My hair got fairly light this summer, more of a light auburn because of all the time I spent in the sun. I'm almost afraid if I do let my natural hair grow up, grey will start appearing!! Not that grey is bad and all, but I'm only 35, I'd like to hold off a little longer. My middle brother is 32 and he has dark blonde hair, but he actually has already started getting some grey hair and it scares me! My hair is naturally a very dark ash brown, so grey would stick out like a sore thumb.

Tracy- Kristen got one of those in the mail a few days ago too.  And I opened it- thinking it was money LOLOLOLOL.

She'll probably complain b/c I opened that, and her credit card bill.  Just wanting to see how she's spending her money- the only thing on that is her books, and they weren't as bad as she thought they were going to be.

Yup. Had to choose between the two and decided that the color was more important because I'm short and people can see the gray really easily, even though my hair is medium blonde. I really like the way it looks colored and I'm glad my mom talked me into it but it's getting really expensive. I'll just put some money aside next week for the cut and get it cut after the surgery.

Not only is it expensive to do it all at once but it takes FOREVER if you do both at once!
