The week was great, Mackenzie's birthday party will live in infamy! We almost saw through the sheets of ice covering the roads in our neighborhood but that fantasy is gone now that we're getting our third big snowstorm in three weeks. The kids are still off of school until monday. We're going on our third week off of school due to weather and luckily we're still getting along! DH and I have made them play board games with us, just to enjoy their 'eye rolling'..hey, we have to find something to entertain us! HAHA!!! It's supposed to be clear and pretty this weekend so hopefully we'll get out. Dh is itching to take the kids skiing/snowboarding so maybe that if the roads get cleared up in the mountains.
My 10yo dd had a new years eve sleepover and was not ready to go back to school tuesday. I wish they had one more day off school. She's having a tough readjustment back to school. She is suddenly very hormonal acting, which is totally unlike her. She has a gymnastics meet on sunday. We finally got a meet close to home that started at a reasonable time. We're hoping she qualifies for states at one of the meets this month. She had a week and a half off of the gym over christmas so she's only had 2 practices before this meet.
My 12yo ds had a great week. His geography teacher ran into dh and talked to him about how he's started giving ds oral tests. He's mildly dyslexic or has some kind of who knows what going on. He has a hard time getting his ideas onto paper. The teacher said he was blown away by how much ds really knew. He said he always knew he was really smart, but was shocked by him; he emailed the ms head and several teachers and tutors about it. We're having issues with basketball stuff. I'm letting dh handle that. Basically they pulled ds down to the "b" team because they needed a tall player and now they aren't using him and the coach is a waste. Dh wants him back on the other team even if it means little playing time in the game. Practicing with your skill level or above makes you a better player. All the coaches are okay, but the athletic director has pride issues. Hopefully it will be worked out today.
Vent: We went back to school this week. Okay, I KNOW many of you out there went back this week, too, BUT I'm still going to fuss because all of the surrounding districts do NOT go back until Monday, Jan 8...we went back (teachers) a full 4 days before them (students 3 days before). But the kids' last day is May 18, teachers' May 21, so I guess that's where we get them.
Brag: Aly did GREAT waking up for school on Wednesday!
Vent: Homework takes forever now..3 teachers have added more homework in prep for LEAP.
Vent: I had to leave school early Friday because a fire almost broke out in my attic, fire dept had to come, and the AC guy had to come out because the element on my furnace was overheating. Right now, we have AC (thank goodness, it's in the 70s today!), but little heat (which won't be good on Tues when we nearly freeze--33º), until he finds the part and finds a place in his schedule for us.
Brag: Aly brought home her report card...all As.
Weekend is for housecleaning & running errands. 5 hours on the road today!
