Has anyone ever tried hypnosis or acupuncture to treat a phobia? I have claustrophobia that seems to be getting worse and worse and is starting to impact my life. I freaked out in church on Easter Sunday because it was so crowded and I was sitting in the middle of the pew and they started adding chairs to the ends of the pews; I got sweaty and nauseous and panicked -- pushed my way out of the pew and found an end seat... I get the same way in the inside of a restaurant booth or in a crowded car... I am still having nightmares about our latest trip to NYC when we found ourselves on the Subway at rush hour -- oh my god!!!! I could never, ever have an MRI if I ever needed to do that.

Anyway, I really feel I need to do *something*. I just don't know how to go about finding the right kind of treatment.

I've had some training in hypnosis and I can tell you that I've seen it used with great success.

I've had lots of acupuncture treatments. Those little needles are very calming. I highly recommend it!!!

I don't like the thought of hypnosis.

I have never tried either for a phobia as I don't really have any that impact on my life...I can always run away from bats and spiders lol. I think your best bet is hypnosis or cognitive behavioral therapy(cbt)as they are supposed to give you a toolbox to help you cope with different situations. Good luck

Hypnosis wouldn't really be the hypnosis you'd see on TV type stuff.
