Evan (almost 11) wants a PSP. It runs about $150 - without games, movies, accessories, etc. He even offered to give Santa $50 to offset the cost. I suggested maybe Santa could give him Best Buy gift cards and he could use them toward a PSP. He politely and very cutely said that it's kind of fun to have something to play with/use on Christmas morning. His birthday is 11/25 and we need to come up with something for that too. That's why I posted the tweens and birthdays question. My real problem (I'm ashamed to say) is what I want to give him not what he wants. Dh and I want to enroll him in a robotics course that teaches programming and robotics using the Lego Mindstorm set and software - cost - $250 for the set and $300 for the course. We would spend $300 on a course of some sort anyway so it's the robotics set that's the issue. It's way more expensive than anything we've bought him before but I know he'd love it. Given the instability of dh's job situation, I'm not sure it's a smart financial move but it would be a good investment in his future. Hmmmmmmm. Wonder where we're going to find the adult in this situation? :)
Sorry, it appears I've kind of hijacked your post... It's just something that's been on mt mind alot lately. Would your dd go for a refurbished/used 2nd generation Nano? It's a thought... Not sure how feasible it is given how kids are (at least around here) about having the latest and greatest...
Good luck.
Oh girl tell me about it---
Last year DD got an IPOD NANO, this year she wants a Digital camera--it is never ending and killer expensive!

My two ask for iPods too or my older one wants a Razr cell (hahaha so not happening given her tendency to lose things). Lately my younger one has asked for a game system like
I *wish* all he wanted was a Nano.... But no, he wants the latest & greatest, the iTouch....
He has a birthday coming up as well, and my parents told him to write up a list of things he wants. The iTouch was #1 on the list. Followed by a cell phone. And an XBox and a PS3. And Guitar Hero III for Wii -- which so far is the only thing on his list that I am getting him. I think he had a plasma screen TV on the list, too, LOL!!!!! He's got big ideas!!!
