Then what do you call that big space under your house? Assuming you don't own a slab home.

Are you talking about a raised house? We don't have one of those (we have a slab, brick veneer house). I grew up in a raised house, though...and we didn't have a name for it. Under the house?..lol. We didn't use it for storage or anything...it was just dirt.

No, I guess I mean the story under the ground. There is the entry level or "first floor" but what is under that? The foundation is under the ground. Does that make sense? Maybe not if you have slab homes.

We can't even bury our dead in the ground because we're so close to sea level. So, everything is ground level...nothing IN the ground.

Ever see Pee Wee's Big Adventure, when he was looking for the basement at the Alamo???? ;o)

LOL...funny how an accent (or lack of) can do that to you!

I've had several people tell me I have a New Orleans accent, but I never lived near there. And I'm not talking about people from other states that can't tell the difference between the Louisiana accents. I'm talking about people that grew up in south Louisiana. The accents are so incredibly different & defined, it's amazing. I can still hear my hometown in certain people's voices, and even the town 10 minutes down the road. Oh, and don't even mention the Thibodaux and south Lafourche accents!!!

I know what you mean; I can tell which part of N'Awlins a person was born in (not to mention their race, believe it or not!) by just hearing their voice!
