Ooh i found The kite runner at a thrift store for $1.99. I can't wait to read it. DD just read Chandra's secret. It is about a young girl in Africa who loses most of her family and friends to Aids. I can't wait to read it too. So much to read so little time. Kelly
She listened to it on tape last year! I thought there wasn't any problem with that book, so I was shocked when they said the word b*tch.
She also listened to all of the Fudge books on tape & cd. All but Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great.
I was a HUGE Judy Blume fan when I was young--started at 10 with Are You There God? I still have my copy that my mom bought for me (she died later that year). I have a couple others. They are in such bad shape because I read them over & over again and let friends borrow. In fact, my cousin (BOY cousin who was 3 years older than me!) used it for a book report. I don't know what the actual assignment was but I do know he went to a Catholic school. He was a senior. I was embarrassed to let him borrow it...lol.
"We don't have a good bookstore around here so when I do make it to civilization I buy a bunch of books. Our library is the saddest little thing I've ever seen, not to mention I'm too irresponsible to remember to return the books."
My town has a two hundred year old independent book store. We also have one of the best libraries, with among the highest borrow rates, in the state. Fifteen minutes away is a Barnes and Nobel. I never have a problem getting my hands on a book.

I brought a whole stack of books home from the school library for me and the kids to read over the summer. (I'm the "librarian".--volunteer)

Good for you, sounds like you live in utopia.
We've figured out it's cheaper for us to buy books than get them at the library - lol.
