Does anyone know where I can get the exact reading level of a book?Gabby saw The Maximum Ride Books by James Patterson and they look like something she'd like to read. However when I went to Amozon all they say for reading level is young adult, and kids in 7th grade and up would enjoy them.It is't on our AR list at school so I can't get an exact level, but if it is 6.0 her librian will order it.Is it on any of your AR lists? As I stated before Gab's reading teacher is very unbending on this and she does not care about content it just has to be 6.0 or they are reading below grade level.Never mind that every novel they read in class this year is below a 6.0.In fact Tuck Everlasting is only 5.0.Anyway if you know where I can get the exact number I'd appreciate if you let me know.

If you want to get the AR reading level go to their website:

http://www.renlearn.com/store/quiz_home.asp

type in the name of the book or author.

I looked those up for you...they are 4.4 to 4.8--so much for 6th grade level...

They are good, my son read them and enjoyed them.

The librarian needs to lighten up and try reading a little more herself.

It is actually Gabby's reading teacher. The librian is great, she even got into a debate with the reading teacher when the kids were at the book fair last Friday. She insists if the AR level is 6.0 or above it is fine and theose are the only books dd is able to read for AR.The amozon review says young Adult, but no dd can't read it,because of the level. Her teacher cares nothing about the content. In fact most of the books she saw in the young adult section of Barnes and Noble are at 5. something,so she can't read them. You would think the teacher would listen to the librian. This is going to be a long year.My dd has never not wanted to read and she scores extremly high on standarized test, but now when we go to the book store she wants nothing because she can't read it until summer.Even The R.L Stine Fear Street books are considered to easy by her teacher. At the moment she is just re reading Series of unfortuatate events to get her points. There is also always Harry Potter.Kind of takes away the joy of reading, and getting excited to get a new book, but with all her other work there would be no time to meet the Ar requirments and read just for fun.I am temped to show the teacher a few passages out of Wicked and asking her how approiate it is for a 6th grader.

Thanks !Like I said our librian will order the test as long as there is a test. The web sight you gave me earlier has help.I've gone through Gab's book order form and some of the books she actually picked are 6.0 or above,so I'll buy those and she can get the librian to order the test. Some of the Gossip girl books are 6.0 too,but I read a few pages in one,Gab isn't there yet.She did read Stuart Little when she was younger, but never tested on it,so that will work. Also I'll have he check out the Wizard of Oz.She really likes the movie and she did read an easir version of the book when she was younger.I also have our schools list so between the two of them,I'm sure her librian will be glad to help out

My dd has read all the Maximum Ride books, she's 11 & she loved them. Couldn't put them down. Ar was making my dd a bit stressed also, she also loves to read. I say leave the kids alone that love to read but they should have a range of some level. In the school she's at now they think its fine if the kids in 5th grade read Junie B Jones. The idea is if they're reading it doesn't matter what. I beg to differ on that point. The principle wanted levels on the books so the kids would know but the librian is fighting him, she says it puts competition & pressure on the kids. A little competition is sometimes a good thing.
