Just curious, what kind of school do your children go to?
Public, private, or homeschool? Or some other kind I didn't mention?
My 12 and 10 yr. olds go to public. Their schools recently got the Ca. Distinguished Schools award...which is good, because I know Ca. schools aren't very good according to statistics!

My 19 mo. old is going to a Christian school when she starts school...it will be interesting for me to compare the two.

My kids attend a private independent that is pre-k - 12. My son went to public school his first 2 years and my dd started at this school in K. We plan on going all the way through in this school unless it turns out to not be a good fit at some point.

Both kids go to public school. We're in a district with very good schools though. The girls go to newer schools as well. The elementary school is 4 years old, the middle school is 10 years old, and there's a brand-new high school opening in Sept that my kids will be going to.

The girls love school. My oldest is involved in the music program, and I learned during the All-City festival a couple of weeks ago that our school system is one of the top 100 public school systems for music.

The only thing I could do without is state standardized testing. There's so much "stuff" my kids could be learning at school that doesn't get covered b/c it's not on a state standard (sigh).

My kids started in the county system and we switched them to the city one by one starting a few years ago with the last one changing last year. We are pleased with our school and all it has to offer our girls. I agree that we could do without the standardized testing. There isn't a day in the school year that it isn't mentioned.

I strongly feel that no matter where you go or how good your school rates you only get out of your eduacation what you put into it.

I'm trying to keep my dc out of public school but they keep wanting to go along with the crowd and do what their friends are doing, regardless of the poor quality of education. It's hard to convince kids about things like education, dental hygiene, eating right, when they can't think past tomorrow. They don't realize how important this will all be to them when they've grown up and can't go back and do it over again!

DD12 went to public k-3, virtual school (homeschooled) 4-5, public school this year (6) and will attend grades 7-12 at a private college prep academy.

DS8 went to public k, virtual school 1-3, wants to attend public for 4-6 and then will also go to the private school for jr. high/high school.

My twins go to public school. Initially they went to a private school (montessori) through 3rd grade, then transfered to public elementary, and are now in public middle school. We live in California in an wonderful school district with excellent schools (and both public schools they've attended have received the California Distinguished Schools award in the past).

If you live in Ca., where are you? I'm in the Bay Area. You don't have to be too specific ifyou don't want, I'm just curious!

thanks
