Is your school doing anything to support the troops or to show patriotism? Or is your family doing anything special?

Our school is having red, white and blue day today. The kids are to wear those colors to show their support. The Student Council is also collecting items for USO Care Packages. My kids have been wanting to do something so I am going today and buy up several things on the list for each of my kids to donate.

I also bought some red, white and blue bows to put on our trees and mailbox. I wanted yellow ones, but everyone is sold out!

Not yet. We're on spring break this week. I'll be watching for any activities we can volunteer for. And, I've been bugging my dh to put our flag back up! We took it down with having so many winter storms.

We are trying to show our support for the troops too. i painted a new mailbox to look like an american flag and dh put it up for me. my ds attached a flag to our post by our driveway also. we were the first family on our road to have a flag, now almost every house is flying one. my ds thinks he started it. my kids and i put together several soldier care packages and my dd made red-white-blue braided ribbon bookmarks to put in them. my dh's uncle was a staff sgt in the desert storm war and part of his job was to pass out the soldier care packages; he has been very helpful with information about what should & shouldn't go into them. i think that this is a very good age to bring kids into supporting the troops. they are mature enough to understand that the war is real and it is serious. i think giving them a way in which they can be active is a good outlet for them. ~ irena
