He is going to be wearing bifocals. His left eye has barely changed but his right eye went from a -3 to a -4 and they eye dr told me that he is having trouble focusing up close and far away with the right eye so instead of wearing one pair for far away and one pair for close up work at school he is going to be wearing bifocals and hopefully his vision will level back out. Also limited time now on Nintendo and Game Boy or watching tv till his eyes are less strained. I am glad I took him to see the eye dr. I wish he didn`t have to worry about his eyesight but am glad they do not have bifocals like they used to the kind I had to wear in my 20s had a line in the middle and it drove me nuts! His will be unlined and so it will be easier for him to get used to them. Until he gets his new glasses which will take 2-6 weeks (no bifocal lenses in stock) he will need to sit up front in all of his classes.

The only thing that worries me is his are -3.5 in left eye and -4 in right eye. Mine are -5.50 in left eye and -6.25 in right eye but I am 36 years old, how much worse can his get? He is 11 and still has alot of growing to do. Any of you with ds or dd with eye problems let me know how your children are doing. I would like to know if I should be too concerned about the change in Zachary`s eyes.

Sam's already at about my perscription. I don't remember exactly, but it's about -5 in both eyes. We're going to look into contacts when he turns 12. I am also concerned that his eyes are as bad as mine already, but mine slowed down at his age, and I hope his do also. The men in my family are VERY near-sighted, and Sam is very much like my father and brothers both physically and personality, so I guess, unfortunately, in eyesight also.

DS11 is at -4 and -4.5 now; I'm at -11.5 and -12 or so, and have been since I was about 14 when I got contacts (30 years ago!!!). They can correct with contacts to -22 diopters. I expect ds to end up like me; his dad is only -2 or so, with some astigmatism; ds doesn't have astigmatism yet. He tried contacts this summer but didn't have the patience for them, and is now a bit scared of them. Some day...
