Abortion instead of contraception

This article is about abortion statistics in the UK.

Parts of it are scary.

In particular

The statistics, for 2006, showed nearly 15,000 women were having their third or more abortion, while 54 of those had terminated eight or more pregnancies.

But Mr Pritchard, the MP for The Wrekin in Shropshire, said abortion was being seen as an alternative to contraception "in far too many cases".

She was a young teen, on the street, on drugs.

"If you are not doing anything to prevent you from getting pregnant, then no pregnancy is unplanned. To me if your not on birth control, not keeping track of your ovulation cycle, and not using condoms then if you get pregnant, it is not an unplanned pregnancy, because everyone know that if you have sex you have the possibility to get pregnant, whether you want to or not."

That, of course, is assuming she had the procreative sex and the ensuing abortions in the 21st century. In Whoopi Goldberg's case, her abortions were 35-40 years ago, when she was a teenager and it was actually quite difficult for an unmarried child to get access to information about ovulation or access to effective birth control.

Beyond that, those two statements are not identical. Yes, I think that people should be doing something to prevent pregnancy if they do not want to become pregnant. However, your second statement seems to indicate that you think that unless they are doing *everything* to avoid becoming pregnant, then they must have planned the pregnancy.

"The fact is SEX= POSSIBLE PREGNANCY, that is its main purpose."

Ah, but sex does not equal consent to pregnancy, and there is a big difference between the two.

"if you know you can get pregnant so easily, but do not want a child then you seriously need to either stop having sex, or get on birth control."

So the only reason a woman might have more than one abortion is because she uses no protection whatsoever? I would call that a hasty generalization.

But let's look at the bigger argument here: let's say that it's you who found it so easy to get pregnant, even while on birth control. There's somebody on this board who has found that to be the case. If that situation were yours, and you didn't want children, would you immediately abstain from all sexual activity then? Honestly?

Wow, I didn't know Whoopi Goldberg had abortions? but I have to agree with you, how could she not know how to control after the first abortion. I am not saying whether I am pro-choice or pro-life, and what I am about to say might bring up a whole new conversation, but I always thought of pregnancy this way; If you are not doing anything to prevent you from getting pregnant, then no pregnancy is unplanned. To me if your not on birth control,

If you have interpreted our conversations to mean that I consider any BORN person of lesser value, then there is clearly nothing further to be said.

I'm going to follow Kathleen's elegant example and refrain from further discussion with you. There is clearly no benefit to be derived from it on either side.

And if you consider my post above to be a personal attack, I invite you to report it. If the PTB agree with you, I will accept their punishment. But I could not have spoken otherwise.

I tried and tried to give her the benefit of doubt but I think it's about time to hit the ignore button.

"Mean" Melissa hopes "Mean" Kate has a great weekend.

PS- I like how she noted my "sweet bottom" in her post. *giggle*

"You advocate abortion of children based solely upon these factors and state that it would be irresponsible to birth these children.
