((Andie)) For mom's like us there will always be emotional damage.

I think though they're talking about which is *more* eomotionally damaging.

I'm late in this discussion but wanted to comment ...

>>To abort the baby knowing that there is no chance of survival, or going through with the pregnancy and having to deal with the emotional damage that this could and most likely will cause her.<<

I'm not understanding your remark here ... both will cause emotional damage. Both are incredibly horrible ... just the fact that she has been given the "opportunity" to have to make that horrible decision is enough to cause emotional damage. She will have to "deal" with it either way.

When I had to make this "choice" I chose to continue gestation. I chose to take whatever time I was allowed with my daughter and soak up every second of it, because I knew that was all I had left.

I also chose to switch from being pro-life to being pro-choice.

Wherever you're talking about anacephely you're looking at infant death. Abortion can be performed in all trimesters, up to 40 weeks. I would rather hold my baby in my arms and let them die peacefully, or during birth 55% on average die. No violence and the comfort of knowing my baby had a chance to be loved and I had a chance to love my baby. Scientists are still learning and whether or not its a reflex or pain issue, I couldn't risk the thought that 30 years from now some new study come out claiming pain is felt. It was 30 years ago it was thought newborns didn't feel pain, now we know better. I also believe that removing a baby without allowing the maternal body to rid itself of hormones of pregnancy is terribly confusing to how our bodies work.

How wonderful to know her baby will save the life of another infant when its born. I would have no issues doing that. I may be loosing my baby, but I'm giving life to someone's else's newborn. Imagine all the kids helped! What a wonderful choice even though its rooted in tragedy.

Women taking epilepsy medicines are said to be at higher risk for these sort of birth defects, could this possibly be reason her baby has this condition? Is she aware of this?

"It's a no-brainer."

Pun intended?

What trimester is that?>

Why does Trimester matter? No matter WHAT Trimester an anencephalic baby is in during the pregnancy, if it has no brain...or not enough brain developed to connect the center of the brain that FEELS pain with the nerves...then the baby feels
