Apparently a government report that mentioned anti-abortion groups as possible extremists is angering some.

"The report describes "right-wing extremism" as possibly including "groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration." "

I think it's the wording that is an issue. Some who oppose abortion are violent, yes, but that does not mean that all groups and individuals that are dedicated to opposing abortion are violent. I don't think all groups and/or individuals that are dedicated to opposing (or supporting) *anything* can be grouped together and be called violent. Maybe wording such as "groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration, and use violence such as bombing to attempt to further their cause" would be better?

It's one of those "Some boys wear blue shirts. Billy is a boy. Is Billy wearing a blue shirt?" type of things.

I think the use of the word "possibly" should be sufficient. I think the author is saying that those groups are two examples of possible right wing extremists. And it's true. Some anti-abortion groups and some groups that oppose immigration ARE right wing extremists who use violence to futher their causes. But the author seems to be saying that that's a possibility, not that all groups who oppose abortion and all groups who oppose immigration are violent.

I think people who are up in arms about this should take a deep breath and get their panties out of a bunch.

It depends how you read it. It could be interpreted that all groups that oppose abortion are lumped into an "extreme" category, or it could be interpreted that groups that oppose abortion could possibly be "extreme."

It's good to "see" you again, btw!
