Are there ANY pro-lifers on this board?
| Fri, 04-24-2009 - 4:09pm |
I've just been browsing through some of the posts here out of curiosity, and I'm wondering if there is any person here who is actually pro-life.

Our CL is PL.
There are a few regulars who are PL, a few lurkers, and a few ex-regular posters who come back for a visit every now and again.
The posts that get a little goofy are only that way either out of boredom or because someone will post some hugely absurd POV and we tend to run with that.
I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is. I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat. - Rebecca West
I figure if someone is invested enough in their point of view, they'll take the time to hear opposing opinions, do some research and come back to discuss it.
You've come by during a lull :)

Waves frantically. I am PL but I often argue with other PL poster as well as PC posters because I tend to address the issue with the goal of reducing demand for abortion rather than reducing supply. I see no point in making it illegal because it would be IMO about as effective as making pot illegal turned out to be. I end up agreeing with a lot of PC points even though I don't agree with the general consensus of elective abortion being a right.
>>I'm reading you complain of drive by posters, but perhaps that is because this doesn't seem like much of a debate board.<<
the biggest complaint about drive by poster is that they generally post something like "PC hate babies" (PL poster) or "PL are anti woman" (pc posters) and then get knickers in a twist when the major flaw in their argument is point out and take off.
>>Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the posts on here consist of one person posting a news story and everyone else talking about how great it is and making jokes about abortion. <<
Being a regular on this board is hard sometimes so we tend to joke about everything to relieve the stress. We don't generally joke about abortion its self though but rather about the general ideologies that some people have, or joke about things we have been accused of (being a bunch of godless pagan baby eaters or something). And sex, of course there is always sex talk around here because it is one of the few things most of us agree on (that sex is fun)
>> I have only seen this board for the last week or two, so maybe this is an unusual collection of posts? <<
the board has definitely been slow lately. I think it is all the nice weather people are getting out more.
Anyways hope you stick around and feel free to start some threads.

I am what I call pro-life for myself.
"I am what I call pro-life for myself."
"I do not think abortion should be made illegal and I do not think that my viewpoints on abortion can dictate what other women do with their bodies."
That's just pro-choice. I hear people say statements like your first one all the time but it doesn't make sense. Pro-life doesn't mean that you would always continue a pregnancy, it means you want abortion illegal. So being pro-life for yourself means that you want abortion illegal, but just for you. By comparison, the choice you make never to have an abortion unless your life was in danger is the "choice" part of pro-choice.
There's no reason to make such a distinction within the pro-choice viewpoint because most pro-choicers never have an abortion. You don't need to separate yourself from what is perceived as the mainstream PC'ers because you are already in the majority.

Thanks
I understand what you are saying.
I am PL for myself. I could never have an abortion. And for most circumstances I am against abortion, but I do believe there are some instances where the woman should have the choice in a timely matter. Instances are rape, incest, and if having the baby threatens the mother's life.
Now, for me personally I am against any form of abortion for any reason, but I don't feel like it is my right to make that decision for other women in the situations described above.
I am a Christian, BTW, too. My opinion is not favorable in my southern baptist church, either.
I just wanted to welcome you to the board :)
