changing tables

I'm in the Midwest for Thanksgiving, and I'm surprised by the apparent lack of changing tables in public restrooms. Meanwhile, the highways are lined with anti-abortion signs.

It reminds me of the line about people who believe that life begins at conception and ends at birth. Did I just have a bad streak, or have others noticed a lack of support for the already-born in the places most concerned with the unborn?

On the practical side, what do the other moms here do when there's no changing table? Change a diaper where people are eating? On the bathroom floor? In the car? (Brr...) Hope the diaper will hold until you get home?

Maybe people in the midwest change the children at the dining booths?

My DH used to take DD in the men's but if it was too disgusting he has been known to use the disabled toilet or go in the women's. I will give the UK it's fair dues we're pretty good for parent's rooms and children's toilets where either parent can accompany. At least in bigger cities.

I was really puzzled where you were going with the title of the thread ... but reading your post it makes total sense!

Almost all the restaurants we go to seem to have a changing table (but then, we go to a lot of family restaurants w/ DD!) but we have been to a few places that were more "bar and grill" types, and they don't ... and we've changed her on the floor on our mat.

Hmmm, I'm curious where you were more specifically that you noticed this dilema.

Ah, a big van would be nice. I changed one diaper in the car by jamming a big plastic case in my lap and balancing the baby on top of that.

My favorite billboard was one of the "beating heart" ones. The word heart was replaced by a red heart shape, which had almost completely faded. So it looked like:

"Abortion stops a beating."

Yeah, the van does make it nice and easy.

OMG I had to go to DSS today about child support for Gabe...but this is the same place they do welfare stuff. Gabe needed a diaper change...and guess what....NO freeking baby changer. OMG seriously. In a place where kids ( and espcially babies) seem to be in abundant supply ( which is another rant). I can't believe they didn't have one THERE of all places.
