Inspections find dangerous conditions at two Phila.-area abortion clinics

Pennsylvania's failure to oversee abortion clinics, which allowed a West Philadelphia facility to operate for decades with grave deficiencies, also enabled two other Philadelphia-area clinics to endanger patients and ignore rules, a Health Department report shows.

The clinics, one in Bensalem and one in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, were run by Soleiman M. Soli, an obstetrician-gynecologist whose malpractice history includes a case settled for $35 million.

Problems at Soli's clinics were found last fall, when the Pennsylvania Department of Health resumed routine inspections of free-standing abortion clinics. In the 1990s, the department had chosen to stop regular site visits.

Should there be regulations on abortion clinic conditions? Where does that regulation end?

There are regulations on abortion clinics, just as there are on other outpatient surgical facilities. The article did not mention the body/board that was responsible for such inspections, nor did it mention any other types of outpatient surgical facilities (Ear/Nose/Throat, dermatologists, oral surgeons, etc) that had violations, or any inspection records at all. This article leaves out some pertinent information.
