So I sit here at work and I am mortified because I am working on a Planned Parenthood account (and I really dont want to) and the number of abortions performed is staggering.

My friend had an abortion at 25 weeks because she had eclampsia. I suppose some would say she could have just died instead.

Many people in her own family said treated her terrible after.

"Thank you for posting this. A lot of people live under the idea that babies can be born at 25 weeks and NOT have any problems whatsoever.

It drives me crazy when I hear that. They always have a "friend of a friend" or a "cousin" it happened to and everything was fine, therefore everyone else must be wrong.

It's like an urban legend."

ITA. I've worked with NICU families for the past 4 years and we have a level 3 NICU. We rarely have babies under 25 weeks make it and if they do, most have varried complications, especially in the first 2 years. I've yet to encounter any under 23 weeks that have made it, and I'm limitied to only knowing whether they make it home from the hospital. Whether they survive beyond that is information that I don't have access to. And we have made MAJOR leaps in the last 5-10 years in the field of Neonatology. Its scary to think where we were just 20 years ago, or I guess I should say its amazing to think how far we've come...

My first son was born at 30 weeks, well the doc put him at around 29 (I had a bad infection), and he still had issues and some delays, but overall those were small. As a result I joined a preemie group and learned a lot that I didn't realize. The youngest preemie in our group was a 26 weeker, unfortunately she had bad infection when she was 2 and passed away. The parents never found out if the infection (inability to fight it) was due to prematurity, she had CP breathing problems and was blind. The mom still goes to our group meetings and offers support to parents finding themselves in the same situation. Our group formed a splinter group of parents of middle school aged preemies, since our issues are totally different from those with babies.

Thank you so much for your post! We have come so far but not as far as a lot of people think.

Again, I'd caution about the finger pointing.

~he's a rare exception~

So rare that the American Association of Pediatrics will be astonished to hear of him, given that the first to survive after a gestation of less than 23 weeks was born in October, 2006, not 1968.

~I would really like to see the medical case on the 22 week old that's now 40---sure since it was such a medical miracle it must be documented.~

See my post above.

~And yes if someone hurt my child, hurting them back would be positive because it would make me feel better.~

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I was referring to the fact that most abortion that are done after the first trimester are for medical reasons. Most people who have abortions purely for reasons of convenience (or want if you like) do so in the first trimester.

I never said anything about how many first trimester abortion were of convenience just about teh time frame when most of this type of abortion is likely to occur

< Oh, and nothing you could say to me would make me feel like less of a human. >

Well put! Although it might make you think less of her for trying...

"Double wow!!! Are you that secure in your own divinity that you feel righteous judging another person, whose situation you know NOTHING about?"

Talk about speaking ex cathedra, right? Pretty soon we'll be seeing deus ex machina.
