I feel that were making great progress in this country and I think that the laws on abortion are significatly changing.

This girl had not the mental capacity to make a desicion , and I think that forcing her into a abortion would be wrong. I commend Jeb Bush and the judge who ruled in this case.

Because for one thing this shows that people who cant make a rational descision on their own ahould not abort their children. This includes to me, women who are depressed, because I know from experience that depression makes you very irrational, and decision making is clouded. And just because a woman who has a medical history of depression may at the time feel a abortion would be right, may in another bout of depression end up severely regreting her decision because she was irrational at the time. The same as in this case where the girl was mentally incapacitated and shouldnt make a decision, she should have a guardian or the state help her. Especially if say in another case like this, she had no family and was in state care.

I agree...this case was certainly tragic. But to abort a healthy 6+ month baby only because she was retarded and couldn't make decisions for herself? The girl has no idea what is happening to her. Anyway, it would be a double tragedy to kill a perfectly healthy 6+(probably 7 months at this point)baby just to make a point. Nobody's trying to score points here, all we're trying to do is save a baby's life. Thank the Lord we did!!! Anyway, just glad a decision was made and the baby is saved...now if they could just get the guy who raped her and lock him up.

I completely agree. The guy will hopefully be found and have to pay for this. Its not her fault or the babies, and in a way he victimzed them both, by raping a woman, and taking advantage of someone who is mentally incapacitated and by now having a innocent lifes hands placed in the court system. luckily the courts ruled for life this time!

I haven't even heard of this story, but that's so terrible! That has to be one sick person to rape a mentally handicapped girl. I sure wish they castrated rapists, because he sure deserves it along with being in jail for a very long time. I don't understand why rapists don't get life. Anyways, I think the court's decision was a pretty good one. Its hard to say, because I don't know the whole story, but since she's mentally slow, I can only assume that maybe she didn't realize she was pregnant until it was too late to make the decision to abort or the whole hearing drew it out too long. Not that I would rather she had the abortion. If she couldn't make the decision on her own, then hopefully those who did had a great understanding of people like her to make sure she would be ok with all of it. I would think a pregnancy or abortion could be extremely difficult for a person like her who had no idea what was going on in her body, it has to be scary. So it seems as though they made the right decision for her.

She's more than mentally slow...she's 22 and has the mentality of a 4 year old. The worst part of this is that one of the suspects is a 92 year old man. The other is in his 70's. Sick, huh? They won't be able to do DNA testing till the baby is born, I don't think...I hear on this case quite often since it's here in FL...I'll keep you all updated...Sue

And I agree...whoever did this is nothing more than an animal. It just makes me sick.

Do you have a link to that story? All I could find were stories on the judge ruling that she would have a gaurdian appointed (June 3 and 6th ish). Nothing after that.

Thanks.
