If you believe that abortion is murder and should be outlawed what
>>protecting children from parental abuse...if a mother abuses a living child she is charged legally with that abuse and punished legally. So why would the same not apply in cases of abortion?
This is the consequences and logical procession of events..so if anyone advocates making abortion illegal then they need to follow that stance through to the end and detirmine what the consequences should be for the woman who is the one committing the act.<<
I agree those are valid questions and mot ones that I feel I am best to answer as I tend to argue both ends against the middle when I try as I can see both the intent of the law as well as a million unintended consequences. In fact it was after answering those (plus a thousand more) questions for myself that I realized the legislation is a generally useless act in the fight against abortion (as it has proven to be in the war on drugs) and the only real purpose it serves IMO is that it would allow us to classify women who get abortions as criminals and make it easy to have little to no sympathy for them because of it.
People can tell me a million other reasons it needs to be illegal and I could agree with half of them but still recognize that laws are one of the worst ways to go about stopping abortion. I prefer to spend my time and money on things that have a shot at working like education and support.
I wasn't arguing that your questions regarding the legal issues were inflammatory and full of assumption I was arguing that your questions regrading women not being able to make any other decision for themselves were inflammatory. I have asked and answered the legal questions myself many times.
Asking if PLers feel a woman needs a legal guardian her whole life is the equivalent of asking if Pcers feel it is ok to kill a born child. The argument is made from nothing but assumption and stereotype
to address one of your points.
protecting children from parental abuse...if a mother abuses a living child she is charged legally with that abuse and punished legally.
no iti s an issue that needs to be examined.
Even back in the day when I thought it should be illegal I would have found a lot of your post condescending and rude. The questions about what it should be tried under and who should be tried fine but your whole tirade about if women should be allowed to enter contracts of should have guardians their whole lives was purposely inflammatory and completely off base. Those who want PL legislation passed are not trying to protect women from their own stupidity they are trying to protect the unborn from a womans actions just as they feel abuse laws protect children from their parents.
There are plenty of facts and opinions to discuss without making things up.
it say IF you think abortion should be illegal.
>>If you think abortion should be illegal then what should the legal consequences be for a woman who had an abortion?<<
see you assumed we all want it illegal
after examining the issue from all the angles and realizing the legal nightmare that would ensue and that it is virtually impossible to separate abortion based on need and abortion based on want in a legal sense, myself (any many other PLers I know IRL) have decided that legislation is not the way to fix it. Heck honestly legislation rarely fixes anything (look at the war on drugs).
I don't always point the finger of blame at the woman who aborted. I often point it at society who puts so little value on women and children and only pays lip service to real support.
>>If you don't think the woman should be charged with a crime then how do you justify that position?<<
simple if I thought making abortion illegal would stop it I would be behind it with every fiber of my being however I am capable of understanding data and there is no proof that making it illegal makes the problem go away. In fact the data seems to suggest the opposite as countries where abortion is illegal generally have a higher abortion rate.
>>Do you not feel that women are responsible for their actions?<<
of course I do doesn't mean I think they always make a right, moral or just decision. Why would you ASSUME I do not hold each and every person responsible for their own actions?
>>If not then should women be considered full citizens with full rights or should they be considered under the guardianship of their father, husband, older brother or the state?<<
Of course just because I feel abortion is wrong and is not a legal right it means I think all women are incompetent boobs. NO NOOOOOO ASSUMPTIONS AT ALL ON YOUR PART
I suppose it would be ok If I did the same to you assuming that all PCers are baby haters who care nothing for anybody but themselves and are incapable of putting another persons needs before their won. That would be fair right?
they are not full of assumptions and stereotypes.
