If anyone wants to play along. Are there any reasons you would have an abortion yourself? What would be a deciding factor to you?

I am asking because along with PL's on this board there are PC's who are PL for themselves. We also have CFBC, TTC, pregnant, and people with completed families so I thought it would be nice to see how much variance there would be in the answers.

I would like to do this without attacking other peoples hypothetical choices but as I know that may not happen I completely understand people not wanting to partake.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago. These are the only scenarios in which I would consider having an abortion:

1. Fetus is already dead or is going to die a horrible, painful death (I shudder to think about this happening to Ellie)- yes, I would terminate. I doubt I would feel any worse at that point for the termination than I would about the loss of my baby.

2. We're both going to die if I don't terminate- incredibly hard decision, but I probably would terminate. I don't think that women who would elect in this situation not to abort are crazy necessarily. Perhaps they, like I, reason that if they worry about something bad happening to this baby from an outside source, they wouldn't be able to live knowing that it died because of an action or decision they made, even if they didn't have another choice besides death. I'm not saying I'd kill myself if I had to terminate in this instance, but there would at least be a very serious depressive episode.

3. I would die if I continue the pregnancy, but the fetus could survive- I'd have to think long and hard about this one. I'm still not sure what I would do in this instance. On the one hand, I'd think that I couldn't leave my husband without me, with a baby that possibly would have serious medical complications. On the other hand, I could imagine the resentment that would build up inside by the realization that he was the reason I decided to terminate. Dead and lonely, or alive and incredibly bitter. This one is truly a quandary.

Now that I've reached the point of viability, these thoughts have a much more tangible meaning for me. I'm surprised that my opinions on this situation haven't changed, though.

2 lines on a pregnancy test, that's enough for me.

When i was pregnant with my son i refused to get an abortion because i had this wonderfully rosy view of motherhood. If by some miracle i decide i want more children i'll adopt rather than waste my bodily resources on bringing another person into the world to satisfy my maternal instincts when there are plenty of children waiting for someone to love them. Alternatively i may just get a kitten ;o)

Part of me wants to tell you to forge ahead because cats are fairly self-sufficient (although, you couldn't

LOl yeah that would be a head scratcher. I have to say though if you managed to get pregnant in your current celibate state while I was still trying I may get a little bitter.

I would abort pretty much for any pregnanacy since I don't want children. I hope I never have to face that situation.

If I was to far along to abort I would I would give the child up for adoption.

For me, personally, I would abort only for two reasons.

1. If I was told that I would die if I continued to carry the pregnancy and/or give birth.

For myself? I could only really see myself having an abortion for extreme medical reasons, or the case of a Harlequin (sp?) fetus.
