I believe abortion should be illegal unless the mother's life is at risk...Meaning she will either die or be disabled for the rest of her life.

I tend to think it should be illegal, but I've always been focused on "why abortion is morally wrong" than "why it's morally wrong for abortion to be legal"... it's kind of different. So as of right now, I haven't put too much thought into the legislation of it. But generally I do think it is in the best interest of the country to have laws against things that are morally wrong.

I've always been pro-life.

I don't think laws are really what is going to help combat abortion. Maybe someday if we ever achieve my personal utopian dream world they would exist but if I got my way they would be basically useless. I think we need SUPPORT, EDUCATION, and and then some more of teh before mentioned.

>>have you always been PL? If not, what led you to your current decision?<<

yes I have always been PL but I have been so for different reasons. I used to be one of the angry PLers but now it is more out of compassion for the unborn. This does not mean I have no compassion for existing women and often feel very badly for women who find themselves in a situation where they are considering abortion. because of my empathy for both parties I work towards education, support, and financially feasible BC. I also feel that any women who is of legal age and does not want children should be able to have a tubal. yes some women will regret it but IMO it is thier bad decision to make

"I also feel that any women who is of legal age and does not want children should be able to have a tubal."

I 100% agree with you there. I would have one if I could find anyone to do it to a 24 year old girl with no kids. DH could probably get a vasectomy but he has no health insurance and we can't afford to get him any.

I would turn to abortion if I got pregnant, I would not enjoy it or be happy but I would, we barely pay our bills, there is no way I could afford to raise a child let alone carry it for 9 months.

OK gonna rant now using you as an example ;)

I can understand you point of view. No one wants to loose everything to gestate.
What I CAN"T figure out is why we as a society have to make it an either or proposition. Canada is not too bad you can get 16 weeks sick leave while PG and then another 12 maternity so it allows you to get Paid time off and by law your employer has to hold your job. However the pay you get is about 1/2 your working pay and for many that is just not feesable. In the states from what I understand it is even worse.

THEN there are financial barriers to birth control. As you stated you DH can't get a vasectomy because of having no insurance. There is NO reason for that IMO. people spend millions of dollars trying to make abortion illegal but paying for permanent birth control for ANYONE who wants it is rarely even considered.

Also as a woman in your 20's is you want a tubal doctors have NO RIGHT to tell you no. It drives me crazy. That is flat out discrimination IMO as many of the same docs would preform a vasectomy on a male of the same age.

I cant even figure out their argument. All I can see is "you are too young and dumb to make such a permanent decision, some day you will want kids because that is what women are supposed to do...... don't worry though if you get pregnant because of my pig headed ways I will refer you for an abortion, THAT is a decision I think you can make because it is one I happen to be ok with, now on your way home buy a doll to play with and try to grow a maternal instinct"

ARGH the whole thing just pisses me off. Also i think if all the money currently spent on trying to change abortion legislation shifted to prevention it would do lot more good.
