A point to ponder re: FACTS

The physicist Leo Szilard once announced to his friend Hans Bethe that he was thinking of keeping a diary: "I don't intend to puclish. I am merely going to record the facts for the information of G-d." Bethe asked, "Don't you think G-d knows the facts?" "Yes", said Szilard. "He knows the facts, but He does not know THIS version of the facts!".

I think that we all should keep this bit of widom tucked in our hearts when we choose to rip apart someones beliefs and mock their sources. Depending upon your view on an issue, facts and opinion can be very closly aligned!

I have to play devil's advocate and disagree with you here.

Listen, we're told that if we have an opinion that we have to back it up with "facts" to prove our point. Then when we do....you choose not to aknowedge the "facts" BECAUSE of the opinion. How does that work?

Not exactly, no. We ALL have opinions. It is why we are here debating. It's when opinion is claimed as fact that yes, you will be asked to back it up.

example: If I said "all PLs are fanatical and insane" I would certainly hope that someone would say "prove it!" BTW, I do NOT think that nor would I claim it as FACT.

But this is what is happening. I deliberately do not cite PC Web sites unless I know that things can be backed up from other sources. If *I* can make that effort, why can't PL's?

Is their position so shaky that they have to rely on diatribe and conspiracy theories? Other PLs don't do that and honestly, it undermines every point they are trying to make.

And secondly a fact is not manipulated to make the "opinion" of a group of people look good.

Exactly. Many use their BELIEF to deny facts. You can only show someone something, but you cannot make them look or acknowledge. So, when you present FACTS they will pierce those facts with distortions of the truth. Thereby trying to discredit facts they don't like. Thank you for reading with a clear and unbiased mind.

Regardless of what you are shown, the back up to prove it, if it is not what YOU want abby, from experience it certainly cannot be true, right? I mean, we have to have back up for our back up, but your one PP site is suposed to be efficiant? I mean, this is an organization that generates INCOME by this activity. Are they going to tell you the truth about the reprocutions? Not unless they can charge for it.

What about those who swore it was a fact that the world was flat, or that Jews were insuperior to arians, or those who said we evolved from ape (which is currently being tore to shreds)? Man could not fly, women could not vote and chilren had no rights. That was then, this is now and the FACTS have changed due to the perception of these facts from those that caused change!

Honestly, Winds, look at your information with big, wide-open eyes and evaluate it. There was no proof offered and I've addressed the "income" issue. So has Munchies, for that matter. Look up the term "non-profit" Do some research from places that will challenge your assumptions.

I never posted anything from PP, by the way.

Insisting that these things are fact, without back-up, pretty much makes your arguments baseless. If people want their "information" to be taken seriously, perhaps they should do some serious fact-finding.

Why are you so afraid to look for this information from non-biased sites? If it's true, you'll find the info. Pretty simple.
