How is it intolerant to believe that I don't get to tell another woman what medical decisions she may make with her doctor regarding the contents of her own body?

Although you were right about not reading the whole thing - I got to the Vietnam veterans analogy and stopped there.

I made it just a bit further than you did and you didn't miss anything. I also find it curious that someone would come here and insult the majority of women on this board (and the majority of women, for that matter) while trying to get us to read some PL propaganda.

Yeah, I hung on til the bitter end, and you didn't miss a darn thing. You should probably count yourself as smarter and luckier than I for stopping when you did.

My initial reaction is that the person writing this article needs to be working harder on persuading pro-life organizations of this before they focus on pro-choicers.

None of the major PL organization give a whit about preventing pregnancy through anything other than abstinence-only education, which is not even remotely effective. Before you are so quick to insult me, please show me what the PL world is doing to prevent pregnancies, if they are so opposed to abortion.

I think the article could have been good if not for the condescending attitude.

Although PL myself (with exceptions for maternal and fetal health) I have learned a lot from discussing rationally with people who hold opposing views.

There is a lot of middle ground we CAN meet on and work together on IRT prevention of unwanted pregnancy. As a PLer that is a major concern for me because elective abortion simply would not happen if we didn't have unwanted pregnancies

ITA - I stopped reading when I saw that they were reducing women that doesn't think forced childbearing is a positive thing to anextreme and laughable stererotype.

Here is a good resource for you to read - so you can better judge a good argument:

10 Signs of Intellectual Honesty

http://designmatrix.wordpress.com/2009/08/12/10-signs-of-intellectual-honesty-3/

These points in particular:

7. Address the argument instead of attacking the person making the argument. Ad hominem arguments are a clear sign of intellectual dishonesty. However, often times, the dishonesty is more subtle. For example, someone might make a token effort at debunking an argument and then turn significant attention to the person making the argument, relying on stereotypes, guilt-by-association, and innocent-sounding gotcha questions.

8. When addressing an argument, do not misrepresent it. A common tactic of the intellectually dishonest is to portray their opponent’s argument in straw man terms. In politics, this is called spin. Typically, such tactics eschew quoting the person in context, but instead rely heavily on out-of-context quotes, paraphrasing and impression. When addressing an argument, one should shows signs of having made a serious effort to first understand the argument and then accurately represent it in its strongest form.
