question for onmom-5

This was posted in the other monster thread. I think it's a valid question since there are many women taking medications that are incompatible with pregnancy, who require these medications in order to function on any level.

"I'd like to know what kind of "solutions" you would have for me. I have a severe mental illness that I take medication for. The medication is not on the market yet and is still in the testing phases. It is not safe to take during pregnancy, and in order for me to stay in the trial I cannot carry a pregnancy. I have to be on an approved form of birth control, which I am, but as you know pregnancy is always possible, even if it's a low chance. The only other medication that has worked for me and is on the market puts me at high risk for death and other severe complications. That one isn't safe for use with pregnancy either.

If I go off my medication I will have withdrawls that can last for months. I will be at a VERY elevated risk for suicide. I will likely have paranoid delusions, hallucinations and hear voices. I most certainly would not be able to work and support and take care of my nine year old daughter. Even if I gave the baby up for adoption, I will also experience post partum depression and psychosis very severely for at least a year after giving birth, and again would not be able to take care of my daughter or work.

So if I get pregnant despite my best precautions, and come into your CPC, what exactly will your organization do for me? I'd love to know."

Her answer would be, if you're not married, don't have sex. If you are married, abide by strict NFP standards. If you become pregnant anyway, it is God's will.

Well seeing as how she used to volunteer with the CPC, I am curious. When people come into the CPC for help they are usually already pregnant. Many want abortions, and don't realize what kind of place a CPC is. So would she just tell me it's god's will and I have to suck it up, quit working, lose everything I've strived for, and lose my mind for a couple of years again? I'm genuinely curious what they would tell someone in my sitch.

CPC = Crisis Pregnancy Center.

A winter statistic:

98% of Americans say "Oh Crap" before going in the ditch on a snowy, icy road.

The other 2% are from Pennsylvania and they say "hold my beer and watch this!".
