just trying to get an idea what it means by being pro choice.

Do you have a limit to the age of gestation at which point you say abortion is right/not right? or is it right at any time during gestation 0-42 weeks?

Lets say a woman was carrying a baby, at 38 weeks, she got divorced, faced serious domestic issues, unable to support baby etc, or similar circumstances. Or just had been struggling with the idea of abortion for a long time, and at 38 weeks or so, finally decided she didnt want to to give birth to the baby, so is it okay to abort at that time, considering she found a clinic who was willing to terminate the pregnancy that far along. It still is medically possible to abort, though risks are high.

How about if she is 32 weeks?

What do you all prochoicers say?

I am sorry for your emotional burden, however, on the flip side, there are many women who do not regret their abortion(s) at all. I had one over 3 years ago and there hasn't been a moment since where I think I should have chosen differently. It was the best decision for me. Only the woman can make that decision, hence the reason I am pro-choice.

In my head..yes there is a point, as much as i am pro-choice. There is a point where a purely elective abortion does come *close* to murder in my book. But it's not my life and I'm not the one who has to live with that decision everyday of my life...so the decision is out of my hands.

Amy

Welcome to the board. I'm so sorry for the decision your sister had to make, but Kudos to you for helping her and standing by her. I feel very much the same as you. I was once put in a position where I felt like I had no choice but to abort a pregnancy, thankfully that particular pregnancy ended in a natural miscarriage. I don't know if *I* could have lived with MYSELF after aborting...but I know that many women find abortion to be the best and only choice for them with little to no regret and that's great for them. I'm glad abortion is there for those who need it.

I am pro-choice and I believe abortion is a decision between a woman and her doctor.

How is it possible that you were forced into an abortion in Ireland? It's illegal there.

Could you explain?

HI Lianne

In Ireland although is is illegal, it is still very easy to have it arranged, although illegal to perform the op its not illegal for information & anyone here can avail of it & have it arranged via UK usually in less than a week, girls travel every day to UK for abortions which are arranged in clinics here in Ireland...........i was forced by my parents, i was 17, called every name under the sun by them & told that if i followed my wish by persuing with the pregnancy i would be homeless as they would disown me & believe me my parents would! (needless to say ive nothing to do with them now cos of endless stuff with them since i was a little girl) - i didnt have support of the father, who was my boyfriend at the time, he opted out of everything.......so basically with no home & no support, i wasnt allowed to tell my friends or my siblings as again my parents forbid it, my mother arranged everything, brought me over, went thro the op (hated it), returned home & was told never to discuss it again!

10 yrs after it when i was 27 my mother said to me that she was sorry if i felt that she made me do it!!!!
