Teenage abortion thoughts?

I found this article from about five years ago talking about how we (as iVillagers) felt about teenagers and abortions. Are we still thinking along the same lines? Are things improving for the rights of the baby or the teenager in the last five years? Who do you think has the right to decided if a teenager can get an abortion? Do we still think it's the teenagers decision?

I do believe in parental notification to an extent, but not parental consent requirements. The one who is pregnant ultimately needs to be able to make the final decision.

As someone who had an abortion at 13, I feel that options should be discussed with the teen girl. I think she should be counceled by someone who is not biased and should be given real facts.

When I was 13, it was kind of cool to be pregnant. A lot of girls at my school always claimed they were and one of my friends actually was. She gave birth at 14. She left school and I've never heard from her again. I was given information about keeping the child, adoption and abortion. My mother was adament about not telling me what to do but making sure I had full information about what I wanted to do. My mother and stepdad were drug addicts, my stepdad and alcoholic as well. We went without electricity and food many times when we werent homeless. At first I wanted to keep the baby. I was excited about having something to love that would love me back. But with the information I realized that I couldn't bring a child into that. I realized what the babies life would be like if I could even keep it. Adoption wasn't really an option for me. After thinking about it, I decided abortion was right for me. Almost 12 years later, I'm still satisfied with my decision. I don't have the depression and regrets that many anti-abortion people claim all have. I recently found out Im pregnant with what will be my first child. I'm excited and realize what a better life a child of mine will have now, then if I had one when I was 13. This is why I think it should ultimatly be up the the person who is pregnant. With they right information they will know what is right for them.
